installed an Ciener .22 kit in the AC556 today. This is the first time I have installed this kit, and before I shoot it, I have a question. See pictures. The aluminum tube that goes over the piston, slides forward and aft quite a bit. As seen in the pics. Is this normal, or am I missing something. Any help is greatly appreciated. Just don't want to damage anything.

Ok, so I ran it, and had no issues. With the ciener factory mags is ran flawlessly, no matter what kind of ammo I fed it. Had lots of ftf and fte with the aftermarkets. Tried many types of ammo (including cci mini mag round nose) and couldn't get them to run. After a lot of head scratching, I observed that the ciener mag feed lips, "hold" the round until the tip has started into the chamber. The aftermarket feed lips "let go" of the round about 1/4" before the round tip has started in the chamber. It appears that this may be the source of the problem. Anybody else been able to get the aftermarkets to work reliable, and if so, what's the secret?

If you are talking about the Blackdog mags I also have not had any luck getting them to run in full auto. I have 2 Ciener mags that run flawlessly. My 22 kit lives in my AC556. Very fun gun to shoot.

Do you have the early, or late style chamber adapter? The early style does not have a feed ramp. Mine feeds great with Black Dog mags and bulk Remington, or Federal ammo.

I actually have two kits. The only one I have ever used happens to be the early style kit. The second kit I just realized has the newer ramped chamber adapter which I purchased just for the spare magazine. I have a dozen Black Dog mags that I have just about given up on. I will try the newer kit next time out. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hope it works for You Pipelinen. Mine is the newer style with the bullet ramp, and it is a jam-o-magic with the black dogs. Runs flawless with the ciener the ones. Will try to post some pics showing how the ciener mags feed lips "hold" the round until the tip of the bullet is just inside the chamber, where the black dog lips "release the round approx 1/4" behind the chamber. I think if I can modify the mag to move it forward about1/4" that it will fix the feeding issues. Pretty busy at work, so it may be a while before I have time to do the mod...
