I was talking to CNC Warrior, about the possibility of doing some Galil gas blocks. They are quite willing to do some, and want to know which type is most popular IMI AR, ARM, SAR, or SA R4, R5. They asked me to run it by the forum to see how much interest there is in it, so, if you ever want to get a fantastic quality new Galil block, now is your chance. I told them to give me a few weeks to let the posting be seen by all, and then I'll get back to them. The price was not discussed. I think a good price point might be around $125, so at that price point, how many and what type would you like?

I think it would be a good idea to respond with a first and second choice. I'm sure, from a purely financial standpoint, for CNC Warrior, their best bet would be IMI AR type gas blocks, as I think relatively few of us do the SAR, in comparison to the AR, or ARM. I'm thinking
#1 - IMI AR (I'll go for 5-7)
#2 - SA R5 (I'll do 3-5)

This is very possibly our only chance to get such high quality gas blocks, in quantity, for our Galils, that we may ever have, so you'd better jump on this chance, in my humble opinion.

HEY, how about a short run of the Galil Sniper gas block!!!!!!!!!
I'd TOTALLY be in for at least 3 of them!!!

A Sako Rk95 gas block would fit Galils and allow for gas shut off valve. :)

Otherwise, I'd also be in for a sniper gas block. Or R5.

I'd be in for at least 3. If CNC Warrior needs a sample to take measurements from, I have what is reputedly a Galil sniper gas block.

That's awesome brother. You know, I could do you a "favor" and send it to them for you. Just make sure you insure it before you send it to me, as it "might get lost in the mail"! Ha! Ha! Ha!
By the way, did you mean 3 sniper gas blocks, or what? And yes, they probably would be very happy to have one in hand to "go off of", I'm sure.

I meant 3 sniper gas blocks.

Just PM me if they need one to work off of. I don't know if it's genuine. I got it in a pile of parts along with some other parts that were supposedly for a Galil sniper. Let me go snap some photos.

I would be interested in 3+ MICRO gas blocks if they are going to consider making them.

The ones they should make are either Sniper or ARM type-1 blocks with no bayo lugs.
Remember that SAR blocks are plentiful, and you can create an AR/SAR/R5 block by modifying an existing ARM-type block.

Price is dependent on whether CNC is capable of chroming the gas ports.
If they do chrome line the ports, it is safe to say they will be quite expensive; probably $200 at least depending on batch quantity.
I've done the homework, and even coming from a major manufacturer in 500+ unit batches, the cost alone for manufacture (not including shipping, tax, paperwork, markup ect.) was over $50 per unit simply because of the chromium involved. The moulds for investment-casting are also not cheap in any sense of the word.

To be frank, making repro Sniper blocks wouldn't be cost-efficient since few people venture with those builds (since the rest of the parts are impossible to get) and the price would be quite high.
Even if they did an AR/ARM block, I would bet the Audi in my driveway that they will be over $300 each if they did less than 500 of them.
They could try machining them out of solid stock, but again the price would be more than most would be willing to dish out.

Like Mr. F said, it'd be a waste of their time to do the SAR blocks.

The first gen ARM (w/o bayo lugs) work great for .308 ARM builds (what do they have, ~20 barrels? -- might throw in a properly sized bayo lug that goes in front of the gas block a couple inches too... current option is only to sleeve), early 5.56 ARM builds w/ bayou lugs separate and immediately in front of gas block, and R4 builds.

Blackthorne sells crap versions of the 2nd gen ARM gas blocks, and this is the one I currently am wanting the most.

With all of those 16.75" IMI barrels, the AR version w/ bayo lug will be critical for that build (could probably run a SAR if you had to but why if you don't...). For those that want the AR/SAR type w/o a bayo lug (common on Golanis and some of the IMI .308 galils in country w/o bayo lugs or in ARM configuration), you could just dremel the bayo lug off of this -- uncertain for manufacture which would be easier for them since bayo lug does require some machining...

The galil sniper block has never really been available and would be awesome. That said, demand and need there would be the lightest. What, maybe 100 barrels sold by Blackthorne plus a couple dozen others in country?

I don't know much about the difference between R5/R6 blocks and the others. Thinking they're a similar to the first gen ar but without bipod receiver if I recall correctly, so another dremel opportunity... Can anyone confirm?

----

What I have immediate wants/needs for:
2nd gen ARM w/ integral bipod receiver and bayonet lug.
Sniper gas block
AR gas block w/ bayo lug

IMO, the lack of a chrome lined gas port would not be a deal breaker. Also, custom AK builders might be interested in Galil type gas blocks, too. Tabuk carbines, anyone?

I think the Sako Rk95 gas block would be scarce as hens teeth, hense, a no go.

I think the Galil sniper would be a very popular option for the .308 Galil build. True, people don't often do heavy barrel - Sniper builds, mostly because the gas block for the heavy barrel is non-existant, not because there's no interest. The gas block is really the only part you can't do without, and is a difficult part to do, even for a very good machinist. The muzzle break, handguard, even a reasonable rendition of the buttstock can be done. The receiver mounted bipod might be "a little" tricky, but again, a reasonable rendition can be done.
The need for having all the rest of the Galil sniper parts is not an issue at all for me. I'd just like to have the general look, feel, and, with a good Douglas SS barrel, increased accuracy. A sniper "weight" heavy barrel (which can easily made), GAS BLOCK, wood - folding hopefully - buttstock, and bipod mounted in the same location as the original Sniper, not necessarily identical to the original, but hopefully folding up into the handguard.

I also think the AR way outsold the ARM, at more than 10 to 1, and still far outsells them in the new builds, as shown in the Golani AR vs. ARM production.
The SAR is not a very big seller, though it's super cool, it needs the Feds O.K., and a lot of us don't want to deal with that. A pistol version of the SAR would be legal, but, the manageability, and coolness drops dramatically, for sure! And sure, you could do the SAR gas block, with a little cutting. Of course you'd have to drill the second pin hole, and it wouldn't have that shoulder in the pin area. I'd rather do a straight cut to "make" an SAR gas block, that Dremel off the whole ARM bipod mount area, and make it look factory, that'd be a lot harder.

The chrome is also, in my opinion, not a deal breaker. They could be nitrided, which is far, far better for rust inhibition.
I'm quite sure CNC Warrior could make an absolutely perfect Galil gas block, and this is probably the only shot at getting perfect, new, Galil gas blocks, ever.
Lastly, I don't think there are lots of SAR, or any other Galil gas blocks around at all, certainly not very high quality ones that can be purchased in multiples.

I'm thinking, for pure sales numbers, (and my own selfish desires)
#1 IMI AR gas block - 5-7 pieces (ARM would be "acceptable", (but not preferable to the AR), as a good machinist could easily profile it to make it look like an AR)
#2 IMI Sniper gas block - 3-5 pieces

I have an NOS Sako gas block which I would lend to Denny if he wants to reproduce it. The gas valve system can be adapted for use on AKs, Galils, Valmets, or Sako clones for suppressed firing (or grenades if legal to do so).

I'd agree. The sniper gas block can be adapted for other purposes, too. For example, it could be used on a build using these HGs or for an old school micro build like this.

FWIW, the Valmet/Tabuk gas blocks are almost the same as a Galil SAR gas block (vs. AR or ARM). It sounds like there are a bunch of people on this site who want to build R5/R6 clones, too.

I agree.
