I finally scored the RPB era M11 .380 Carbine upper receiver that had been eluding me for the last few years of collecting. I now have a complete set of RPB carbine uppers (sort of), M10, M11 and the very early 1983-84 SWD “transitional” M11/9 carbine upper. The early 11/9 carbine upper receiver was built using leftover RPB M11 .380 carbine barrels and shrouds rechambered in 9mm (probably the rarest one of the batch). Just felt like showing off the set! Now if I can only find one of the M11 .380 uppers that has holes instead of slots like the M10 on the top. I’ve had numerous RPB M10 carbine upper receivers assemblies with the slotted barrel shrouds, they are much more commonplace, the RPB early 80s shrouds with the holes instead of slots are RARE.

From top to bottom:

M10 .45 RPB mfg “deluxe carbine” 18” bbl rare variation with large holes instead of slots and M3 grease gun flash hider attached. Upper receiver features the enhanced rear sight, it is an M1A1 Thompson stamped sight welded to the upper. Probably left over from the Thompson SMGs that RPB built very briefly under license from auto ordnance.

M10 .45 MAC mfg, “M10 LR assault carbine” rare variation with small groups of 3 holes vs slots. 18” bbl, the one is left over parts that were assembled by RPB for the early production M10 SAC (semi auto carbine) SN# 4500010

M11/9 SWD mfg, transitional, using leftover RPB M11 .380 components 16.5” bbl, early production model of the 11/9 carbine upper

M11 .380 RPB mfg “standard carbine” 16.5 bbl. Another transitional upper, this one has the SWD Cobray trademark logo stamp on barrel shroud, indicating this was leftover RPB inventory distributed by SWD, most likely 83-84 before they dried up

I have never seen one of these before. Does it have two front sights (one on the receiver and one further out on the barrel/handguard)?

Damn, Really cool!
Over the years, I’ve tried to buy a few carbine uppers but it’s never worked out. I’ve been lucky enough to buy a lot of the open bolt (SAP) guns though. I missed out on a SAC once. It had a pistol* upper on it and it wasn’t an sbr; therefore, I passed.

The sights on the receivers have been hammered down flat, so that there is only a front sight on the barrel shroud.

I’ve had a m11/9 one for several years. I’ve never shot it. I always end up taking the lage upper.

Do you have the same 11/9 rifle upper in the pic I posted? With the long heat shield? Or the standard production model with the shorter heatshield and ribbed barrel? Just wondering, as I’ve never bumped into any other examples of the long shroud 11/9 upper in the wild before

I don't know if you realize this or not and please keep going, but most people don't know most of what you are sharing, so you're making your own collecting harder!

I like #2

Don't have it.

Or the 380 one

I do have some other Thompsonish thing thats not in your collection.
There was the M11/9 Thompson style upper, had a die cast Thompson style grip and ribbed barrel, Cobray printed into the grip, pretty cool and kinda on the rarer side. That upper came much later, FMJ era, early 90s. I collect the RPB and MAC era stuff (mostly RPB) but a few of these are RPB leftovers that were marked and sold by SWD.

That’s what makes it fun for me! The little nuances and details. There aren’t many people into the MAC stuff on that level. Plenty of retro Colt guys sitting around analyzing dimpled selector switches etc but not many guys get into that stuff with these guns, I know a couple other big collectors who are into it on that level, but there are really only a small handful of us.
