My father recently passed and he passed down to me the full size Uzi we converted together back in the early 80s. I remember always having feed or ejection issues, but it was fun to do with my dad. Before he passed he told me the Uzi had trigger issues in SA mode (which I posted about here).
So I set out to get this thing working. I watched all the BWE videos on YouTube, and was able to go after a fix with at least limited knowledge.
So I set the cover clearance to .005-.015, but still had trigger issues and ejection issues.
I then tore down the lower assembly and determined I had a mix of old and new style trigger parts. Luckily I had a bunch of parts and was able to get the right mix of trigger parts to get it working correctly.
I also set out to replace the Group Industries bolt that was clearances for the restrictor ring. As luck would have it, a reworked IMI bolt came up for sale right here in the classified. I jumped on it and put it in and headed to the range for the big test.
Much to my delight, I put 100 rounds through it in both SA and FA mode and it worked perfectly! No issues at all. What a great feeling.
I drove home with the biggest grin on my face. My dad would have been proud.
Big thanks to those on this forum that helped me out as well.

That is great to hear! I used to go shooting with my dad but he was never into full auto. I did have an old roommate that bought a transferrable Colt M16 right when he got of age, I think he paid 1k for it. He let my dad shoot it and he said, 'what a waste of bullets'. This reminds me that I need to find that picture.

Richard was a great guy.

The BWE videos he made are a wealth of knowledge.

Not quite the same, but Dad had a Winchester 1873 in .32-20 that has been in the family since it was bought new at the Phelps-Dodge mine commissary in Douglas, Arizona in 1903 (before statehood). As a young girl, grandma used it to defend the homestead and shoot at stragglers from Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus, New Mexico in 1916 as they foraged their way back to Mexico after the battle. Her poppa was in Tucson fetching needed machinery and mom was away on another ranch acting as a midwife.

Decades later, in the late 80's, it was just an old slowly rusting relic in the closet. But Dad and I made it a project and disassembled it and cleaned it up and refinished it to it's former glory. Then, a year or two later, on the very mountain right out in front of that old family homestead (which is just over another mountain from where BP agent Brian Terry was murdered in 2010 with a "Fast and Furious" AK), I bagged my first deer with it.

Dad passed away during the first months of the COVID, and now the family heirloom rifle belongs to me. Still slinging lead 111 years later. It might be the last gun I'll ever let go of. Heck, I might have it buried with me.
