I couldn't find any South African (?) Bird of Prey mags, so I bought several 40 round FMK magazines. They lock in, but reliability is spotty at best. I measured/compared them to 32 round UZI mags and everything, except the "stops" on the sides to prevent over-insertion is the same.

Does anyone have any fixes or advice? (besides throwing them away)

over insertion is a problem with them. I brazed stops on the ones I have to prevent this. Rule of thumb with them is to insert and pull down on them. Be carful and make sure you control the bolt with them. I have seen alot of ADs when people have a malfunction with them and just pull the mag out to clear it, bolt will drop and AD will occur

Most of these mags are too fat to fit in the magwell reliably. The other issue I have is over insertion. Just insert and pull down. Not a big deal for range use.

The back strap usually has to be cut down a bit. Milling Machine is the best way to go.
Just make them the same as an Uzi mag.
Recut mag latch slot.
Add a mag stop on the side.
They work great.
