This might be a dumb question, but here goes nothing;
Does FNC stand for Fabrique Nationale Carabine? It seems extremely redundant for the FN FNC to be the Fabrique Nationale Fabrique Nationale Carabine... and looking at other names of weapons both before and after (FN FAL, FN CAL, FN P90, FN SCAR) the FNC seems to be the odd one out as it is the only name that contains FN twice. it seems much more likely that it would stand for something like Fusil Nouveau Concept or Fusil Nouveau Carabine as a way to differentiate if from the CAL at the time. all sources online that I can find just lazily point towards Fabrique Nationale Carabine, but none of those sources ever show any corroboration with FN itself and rather just make inferences based on the lack of direct answers. The English manual says FN carbine a lot but never explicitly says that FNC means FN Carbine. In fact, it almost as often says just carbine or worse FNC carbine (talk about doubly redundant).View attachment 41932
anyways, thought I would pose this idea to the group and let wiser people than me consider it.
