Finally dropped by the FFL to have a look at my FNC MG, I noticed the handguard has quite a bit of fore-aft slack. It had its barrel replaced so I’m wondering if maybe the gas block was a little too far forward. Does anyone have any tips on how to tighten it? I was thinking about some sort of shim between the gas block but I’m curious to see what others have done. I didn’t get to take it apart and see if there’s an adjustment screw like on the FALs (?).

I'd had an issue with some side to side wobble with the original hand guards on my fnc. A set of OEM hand guards largely fixed the problem, but it took some small shims between the hand guards and the hand guard ring/collar to get a firm fit. Your issue sounds different, but I hope this information is useful to you.

There has always been some play on the system. The Belgian Army didn't bother it as it made a nice sound slapping on it on parades when you salute the flag...
Bending the collar or put some filler in it might help.
