Cooooool. A new process eh.. hmmmm. I'm getting excited already

Sounds like BS. They always blamed the fBi for taking a long time with the fingerprints which leads to the long waits. What did they supposedly change to make it quicker?

They increased the wait time variance to reduce the avg wait - simple statistics manipulation.
I'm glad they stopped the program.

To make it look like they were doing a better job and to dissuade forms submitted for trusts (which require more work on their part),
they prioritized processing of just arrived in the mail to-individual F4 submissions that had no mistakes and jumped them to the front of the processing line.

Cherry picking the simple applications made their internal stats look way better (this works for a while until the backlog become so large the stats manipulation doesn't work).

For every form stuck in the queue for a 11 months, just process 1 form ASAP in a month and the average processing time appears cut by 50%...
Also boosts customer approval rating by 50% (guys that got processed in a month) up from than 0% (where everybody waits a year).

It will be interesting to see in ~6months if the wait times starts to increase again due to them not processing the oldest submissions for a couple months

I read the original report on this issue that came out, which was after my post above. They did not cherry pick the simple applications, they picked the ones with no errors so they would go right through the fBi check. Maybe you mean correct/error free when you say simple.

Apparently, when the fBi finds errors, that transfer is put on the return pile and they move to the next transfer. I guess that a lot of transfers sent in must be returned for corrections.

On a good note for me, I fell into this gap when I sent in 4 sets of Form 4s in early July and 2 sets in early Sept and all were processed in just under three months. A Form 1 sent in early Sept was two months door to door.

By “simple”, I meant individual not an entity (trust, Corp, etc)

So, the translation here is, "Some ninnies called and bitched, so they spoiled it for everybody." Way to shit in the sandbox.

No, not really. Fast tracking individual applications doesn't bring the average wait down in the long run. In fact I bet you would see people transfer items as individuals more often then once they get them apply to transfer to their trust. You'd have two transfers where if they treated everyone equally they'd only have one.

If they should have prioritized anything, it should have been F4->dealer (forms with no errors) as there are no background check required.

No reason an FFL/SOT should have to wait a year on an inbound F4...

I see your point, Heisenberg, but if they eventually clear ALL forms in a timely manner, we'll see the sky part and (insert favorite deity here) appear before us.

The entire NFA system is a f#@*ing insult to us law abiders to begin with.

There's no wait for (insert favorite gangster stereotype here) to snip the trip off his stolen SAPM10.

Yet, as a person who's arguably being TRIPLE-Taxed to buy an SMG or a can, I'm used to the system being unfair to begin with.

I paid income tax on the money to buy it, sales tax on the effing item, and then a $200 antiquated Jim Crowe tax on the NFA item (originally designed to keep SMGs and the like out of the greasy hands of wops like me, and the hands of our ancestors of darker persuasion).

I'm accustomed to filing a form and forgetting about it until the stamp arrives. It's damn hard, but it's a cost of business in the NFA world.

I totally agree dealers should get the same quick turnaround on F4 to 3 as they do on F3 to 3 xfers, but any time you involve a civilian/consumer in the equation, uncle sam pulls his shaft out and says blow me.

To see an actual effort to shorten times, albeit a poorly executed one, doesn't bother me as much as seeing the line go from nine months to ten, to a year+.

The NFA is an unconstitutional dickslap to begin with, so niggling over the semantics is fruitless.

Now, we all get hosed again.

I have no skin this go round, as my item went to jail prior to the implementation of this "failed" attempt at increased productivity.

Having a half dozen family members who work for the .Gov, I know the system is all pencil, no eraser. Not only that, but it's vindictive to people who moan about it.

I said elsewhere earlier that everyone should be mad about about any system that gives preferential treatment to one group over another, however I can totally get behind fast tracking F4 to dealers.

My Form 4 trust was 140 days for both the GI SMG and AWC suppressor. Checks cashed on September 5, 2019, and stamps signed on January 22, 2020. But i spoke to the examiner at least four times on the phone, answering her questions regarding the estate sale, in state transfer.

I just got this text from my dealer. Now my first M11/9
was cashed 11/22, 2x silencer co cans 1/8/20, 2 more cans 3/4/20 and one more m11 3/5. So I’m guessing by “a couple” he is talking about my 1/8/20 cash dated submission.

Got some form 4's back today when I got home. Got s couple for you. We can chat tomorrow about pickup. Super tired, going to bed!

I totally donot understand the rhyme or reason why forms get so out of order lol. My paperwork is always perfect and I will spend the extra 10 minutes per form making my hand writing perfect.

He didn’t share which forms they were but we shall see in the AM hoping it’s my November form!

My fingers are crossed that your 1/8 is ready.. I have a check cashed on 1/9/20 hoping the NFA fairies deliver a stamp under my pillow soon, if that's the case

Don't remember exact date check was cashed, went pending March 13th 2019
Just got the call that it was approved the end of February.
So well over a year if you want to add the check clearing to pending.
