Front sight added to 13" AC556 with the Samson Hannibal rail

I figure somebody might find this useful. I recently took home a KAC556F. I added a Samson rail and was really bugged by losing the front sight (it's on the gas block cap on the short guns, which the Samson rail replaces). I don't necessarily need BUIS on every gun, but a machine gun with a rear sight and no front sight is goofy.

I found that the Occam Defense PH-2 front sight is a good fit. It uses AR A2 front sight posts, so I ground a spare post down to a nub to make it as low as possible, and that was enough for the front sight to line up with the Tech Sights rear sight. Now I've got a cowitnessed red dot and functional iron sights. In practice I end up looking over the top of the iron sights to see the dot, a lot like a red dot on an HK claw mount.

Samson makes a repro shorty ac556 sight in blued as well.

I appreciate what you did here. Especially, thinking outside the box for the front sight.
Aesthetically, nothing beats the OG AC-556K, IMO.

Openspaces, don’t give up your search for a K front sight. It took me years but found one. Hey… recommendation’s might work too. If you’ve got a factory folder already with a side sling swivel, I’m not sure how it would look with the Samson one though. It’s a good alternative though.

I should’ve clarified. I mounted the Samson rail identical to the original post. I have the factory sight (removed to mount the rail) but really wanted the option to add a front post that works with the rail and rear sight.
