I did a search and nothing came up so please don’t crucify me if this was answered before and I missed it.

Has anyone tried the external hollow points from G9, underwood, etc in their Mac 9/11 or Uzi smg? Might be a good alternative to actually hollow points since they don’t feed reliably. The shape is more similar to a ball round so I’d imagine should feed alright. Any issue with shooting +P ammo in these older guns?

Some of you might think this is dumb but I’d like to try it out on a group of pigs and the penetration and terminal ballistics of these rounds is appealing to me. I also reload so if I can source bullets it would be cost effective.

On the same note is there any issue shooting 65 grain Norma frangibles through these guns? They work great in handguns and I shoot a lot of steel relatively close. I understand not to use a suppressor with this ammo as it can increase wear and erosion on the baffles, but unsuppressed any reason not to?

I've seen various tests using these types of projectiles and the results are varying. They seem to fall under the "gimmick" category, with no real world data beyond shooting windshields and whatnot. I don't shoot HP in my subguns as I have no need, but some projectiles will work better than others with a given firearm; it's largely trial and error to see what your MAC, UZI, STEN, etc. cooperates with.

+P ammo is safe in subguns; in fact most military ammo designed for use in smg's( especially open bolt) is often loaded to +P or higher pressures to ensure adequate operation.

I’d be surprised if those external hollow points would feed any better than a regular hollow point.

Look at Corbon Powerball ammo. It might work? It has a pretty rounded profile.

Why’s that? The external hollowpoints more or less has the shape of a ball round
Keep in mind even round-nose, flat-point ball often causes problems (147gr 9mm is a great example). The point on that external hollowpoint looks pretty flat, plus you have sharper corners that can catch or dig in more easily than a smooth, rounded ogive.

Looks like you responded before I edited my last post, but Powerball might be something to consider.

Edit to add:

If you look at the pictures on the site below showing different sides of the round, you can also see how much the profile varies rotationally. For instance the round on the left shows one of the huge scallops where that profile is very different from an FMJ. Depending on the rotational orientation/clocking of each round as it feeds, it has the potential to present very different profiles each round.

I don’t have first-hand experience with these, so don’t let my guess stop you from trying if you feel so inclined.

The flat point of a EHO is very tiny compared to a FP bullet. Like maybe 1/20th the area. I guess I’ll give them a try and report back. I’ll check out the corbon load you mentioned

Trying is the best method of being sure. I have run hollow points without a hitch in my Uzi with a milled feed ramp. If it doesnt work you shoukd have other 9mms to use it in
