Hello forum.

This is project thread.

Couple of friends asked if we can do something for Galil.
Desided i need to try - so i've bought a Galil and here we go...

Decision was to freefloat barrel and add permament optics rail for ACOG. That's why we"ve took our AK freefloat kit and jeopardized it a bit.

Heart of the system - new gastube:

Modding AK chassis barrel nut to fit new gastube and Galil reciever:

Testfit:

So project after barrelnut fitted to the reciever and married to the gastube:

Problems so far
1. Foreend is long. And gasblock is a brick.
Guys do want to leave frontsight at place.
Solution - either shorter foreend or cut the hole in long foreend.

Decided to go with cutout in long foreend:

Problem number 2 - vertical charging handle.interfere with any picatinny claw. But don't interfere with ACOG mounted directly. Solutions: either move picatinny UP or just use (as for now) ACOG prism direct mount.

Tomorrow is the day for gasblock shaving and gastube making (second part of gastube).

Stay tuned.

Aww Man. I would have given you a donor rifle to save you from using that real Israeli made Galil in full auto for that project . was it a AR, SAR or ARM before you started? Have you fired it in FA since you modified it? Pretty neat what you did with tube and spacer. Welcome Lou

Well since the original gun is intact and alway can be converted to the original state i don't see any issues with takin it as a donor.

Meanwhile this build was completed. Just added an AR tube adapter so guy can use his beloved CTR.

I just was surprised that you used your select fire Galil to make your modifications. I would be afraid that it would never fire the same again if I brought it back to its original condition. What length was the original barrel on your Galil? Have you fired it yet since you made your mods? How did it do?

I like it. I used a modified B&T Sako RK95 rail years ago on a Galil switch barrel build but that handguard was expensive and heavy. Hope this one is neither.
