You can always turn the barrel a little to INCREASE the difference, thus allowing for a thicker sleeve
This could possibly also be accomplished by reaming the block.
Again, this is to increase difference so you can use a thicker sleeve. The barrel has more steel to "lose", but requires a lathe.

Thanks brother, but as for the whole Valmet mod thing, I wanted to have a "stamped Galil", as a "range toy". The Valmet 76 would be perfect, but it's a little to expensive. The 71 would require those gas block mods, to make it look like I want it too, but the 71 is really not of the same quality as the 76, at all. "Not too mention", the real Valmet high cap mags are CRAZY expensive, and almost non-existent.

Hey, maybe I could get a cheap ORF Galil receiver, and cut the front and rear "trunnion" areas out, mill the sides and bottom a little, and "fit" them into a Nodak AK receiver. Uh......Jeff....does that sound "do-able"??

That sounds exactly like what I have been thinking about. I like my Galils but just wish they were lighter like the Valmet M76.

Yes, raexcc2,
I'm now thinking of getting the Arsenal SLR-106, certainly not as a replacement for the pinnacle Galils in the collection, but to "supplement" them, with a stamped 5.56 Kalashnikov family weapon.
The Valment 76 would be a great supplement too, but those mags are just to rare, and expensive.
The SLR-106 looks great, and now, with the proper feed ramp in place, they're pretty darn reliable too.

But, nothing can replace the Galil to me, "love at first sight" from 1989.

That Tavor, horrible as it looks to me, at first anyway, looks like...the future of assault rifles. Real fast lateral transitions for engaging multiple ........paper targets.

I bought the Arsenal SLR106UR pistol in hopes to SBR it and have a Krinkov and leave it to my son after I croak but the laws on SBR's are so confusing in Washington state that I'm not sure he can have an SBR. I might sell it since I just lucked into a excellent condition Valmet M76.

I wish you well in your quest to find mags for that M76. Usually, they're extremely hard to find, then you've gotta pay $175-$250 a piece for them, and you may have to bite their fingers a little to get them to release the mags.
That's one big reason why I'll just go with the SLR-106.

$175-$250 per mag! That nuttier than squirrel shit! For the cost 5 Valmet magazines you could certainly buy a whole new rifle platform (AK-47, AR-15 or what not) for shooting or self-defense and extra spare magazines. What really surprises me about the Valmet's is that you would think Magpul, Promag or some other magazine company could make a compatible magazine for the Valmet. The Valmet has certainly won it's reputation as a classic Assault rifle that will live on to be passed or sold to future collectors.

Try $905 for 3 M76 magazines. This was the winning auction price on Gunbroker from the same FFL that I bought my M76 from.

I plan on sending my Valmet M76 to Jeff at Hillbilly Firearms and have him convert a bunch of Weiger and Bulgarian circle 10 5.56 mags I have to work with the M76.

It will be way cheaper than paying $300 a magazine.

It's too bad Magnolia State Armory never got their Valmet AR15 magazine adaptor made.

I believe there is another company making adaptors to use AR15 magazines for AK's but that would entail a permanent modification to the Valmet and I'm not sure I want to do that.

Maybe find a Galil AR mag adapter and have Jeff convert to work w/ stanag mags? Not ideal, but it's got to be cheaper and easier to convert something once than to do it w/ every mag...
