Hey all
It seems I never see the isreali army carrying Galils? only M16a2 and M4 carbines. Where are all the GALILS??? I know the South africans use the R4 for or at least they do currently. I know they are widely used in south america in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm :)I seen pictures of Farc guerillas carrying both.
Why arent more world wide users using this fine assualt rifle?

The IMI Galil is heavy, not accurate and you can't place any optics on it without special adapters. Many people also don't like the Galil/AK safety mechanism but that's more a personnel preference issue. The M16 design, however, is very user friendly and allow numerous modifications to be made such as mounting various uppers. The large number of M16 variants used by the IDF for dozens and dozens of years of continuous combat deployment is a clear evidence of that.

Thus, the reason for the IDF usage of the M16 over the Galil isn't the cost. It's the pure quality of the M16 over the Galil. Most of IDF troops dislike the Galil and will prefer a CAR15/M4 over it.

i hope i don't offend anybody

Ive been to Israel a couple of times and only once saw a galil, which I believed to be a micro. On my last visit I still saw a great many varieties of the M16, including A1, A2, M4 etc., being carried by uniformed soldiers, as well as by off duty troops in casual dress.

I still remember this one beatiful Israeli girl in all black walking around with her friends one evening in Tiberius while wearing an M16A1 slung over her back...it was quite an image.
