Okay, just tried out my new YHM Phantom suppressor on the XM-177. First time I've been able to pull a trigger in 12 months (multiple surgeries).

Love it! Runs like a raped ape on the M4 upper. Except for the part where I'm re-enacting a phosgene gas attack in the trenches at Verdun.

So what's y'alls best method of reducing the gas blast into the eyes when shooting full-auto suppressed?

The PRI Gas Buster charging handle?

The American Spirit side-cocking upper?

Airtight goggles?

Your experiences in this arena would be welcomed.

My block or any adjustable gas block will defintely cut it down. Here is what I posted on the FAQ section on my website: http://micromoa.com

"Is the Govnah going to stop all the gas going into my face when shooting suppressed?

It will greatly reduce it. In our testing we felt there was no need to add anything else to reduce gas in the face. However, note that gas comes from the chamber not just the gas port of the barrel. So that is the case even with a piston system. Gas coming from the chamber is not going to affect bolt carrier velocity as much as gas coming from the barrel’s gas port which is what the Govnah is specifically designed to address."

That said, everyone's sensitivity to gas in the face is different. I don't notice the gas anymore with my gas block installed and set to the suppressed position but I also shoot a rifle right handed.
There are several products/tricks to reduce gas in the face like a gas buster charging handle, RTV sealing the charging handle area, those gas vents on the forward assist etc. Those only address gas in the face and do nothing for the increased carrier velocity (increased RoF) which in turn is increased recoil as well as parts wear. I would recommend controlling the gas first with my block or anyone's adjustable block for that matter then consider one of the options just mentioned if you still experience any gas in the face.

silicone rtv the charging handle gap. put moly on the upper receiver to prevent the rtv from adhereing to the upper. clean the charging handle area with acetone. trim with exacto if needed.

MGI adjustable gas tube..

Below is what mine looked like after adjusting a few times after it carboned up.
MGI did replace it but I lost faith in it after it broke. Plus I'm using mine on full auto guns and you melt a gas tube pretty easily doing mag dumps.

Had the same thing happen to my MGI gas tube. They did replace it and i leave on a 11.5" upper and dedicate it for suppressor use(it has trouble with ejection without a suppressor on when it gets dirty).

Amphibians gas block looks like a much better solution than the MGI or JP adjustable gas tubes/ blocks.
