No, neither will an AR15. They just don't balance right, sight is too high above bore, and too noisy. I tried a lot of rifles, and my favorite coyote rifle is a Remington VS 223 with 27.5 inch Harris sitting bipod. Not to say a Golani will not work as an occasional coyote gun, but if you hunt them seriously there are a lot of factors you have to consider. Noise is one of them, I called more doubles and triples with the 26 inch VS than anything else, and it saved my hearing as well. And even the best semi-auto willl not shoot 1/2 inch or better groups like my VS did.

The Remington VS does looks interesting, and I was also surprised you don't like the ar15. I know a lot of people that swear by them.

Don't get me wrong. I love the AR, probably put more rounds through one than anything else. But for a coyote rifle I prefer the balance and accuracy of the bolt. I sit on the ground on a stadium chair, and I can shoot with the sitting bipod. I killed over 400 coyotes in AZ over a 12 year period, and this is what worked best for me. This is actually a 25/06 Sendero, but pretty much the same setup. The 25/06 was too much gun, and too noisy.

This particular ranch is near Picacho Peak, one day we called 18 coyotes and killed 12, wounded one we could not find. The 223 was more than enough for 300 yard shots, and you could keep calling after shooting and they would still come in. Bigger calibers seemed to spook them.

Between me and my friends we killed over 120 coyotes on this ranch, they were thick as flies and ate the owners cows. After he died and the cattle got sold off, it was hard to find them. That was one of our secrets, to find coyotes we looked for cattle.

Cool nice pic. I'm here in Kansas and there are cows every where so finding coyotes shouldn't be a problem.

How about the Ruger Mini-14?

Always hear of those being used as Ranch/Coyote rifles.

The first time I pulled the trigger on my AA 392 (or any Galil) was at a coyote. I took a kneeling position and pulled the trigger. Didn't see the dog until I walked out to where I last saw it, one shot kill. I counted back 210 paces to the position where I fired. I couldn't believe it, and decided that my long awaited Galil was indeed a "Magic Gun". Maybe Galil's aren't ideal coyote rifles but will perform the job rather well.

I tested my Golani (when it is running right) and it has been pretty accurate on the range. If you are using high velocity 223 ammunition as its cousin the 5.56x45 uses in the battlefield, you should get good yaw at high velocity to produce an impressive wound channel. So I think if the 223/5.56 round can drop a man it should easily dispatch a coyote.

Have you checked what twist the barrel is on your Golani? Mine has a 1-9 twist barrel, but others have 1-10 and 1-12 twist barrels. As soon as you find the twist out in your barrel and get the correct ammunition. then get some type of optic and a sandbag and have fun taking out them coyotes.
