I have a chance to pickup a Century Golani for $700 and am wondering if that is a fair price. I have done an external inspection and everything seems good, the stock locks up solidly and the safety and mag release are good to go as well.

Now the BAD. The previous owner replaced the original front handguard with a clamp on vertical grip and the original top cover is gone, replaced with one that has a rail section drilled and tapped on, so no original iron rear sight. I would have to find a new top cover with sight and a forearm.

How hard is is to find these parts and in this condition is the price worth it?

Both APEX and 24 hour tactical have the parts you're looking for.

I would still pass on a Century Golani.

If there are no other issues then sure go for it. The Century issues to watch for have been discussed at length here and other boards.

You can always let Jeff (TennGalil) at Hillbilly Firearms give it the once over and fix anything that needs fixing.

You can't "always" have Jeff do it... last I heard he had a looooong list of build projects lined up with not a lot of spare time to do them.

I think $700 is fair for a Golani if it isn't too far out of spec as far as hardness and or locking lug geometry. Those are fairly hard to inspect for before buying. Jeff told me some Golanis are unsaveable.

If I personally was going for a clone, I would have one built rather than risk getting a bad Golani. If it turns out bad you can probably resell it though fairly easily. $700 is pretty cheap nowadays for any rifle.
