I usually frequent on the uzi page, first time post for Mac’s. Just trying to gauge interest. I have a transferable m11/9 that recently came into my shop that needs a refinish before I sell it. I’m debating spending the money to have it engraved and gold plated. Just seeing if anyone in here has seen any done, if they bring a premium over a regular finish, or if there is little to no interest in this type of thing on the transferable Mac market. Needing a refinish it’s a good candidate, if there’s a market for it. I know there’s an ass for every seat, but if I’ll get the same money out of it as a regular refinish it’s not worth doing. Thanks

IMO not a big market for the engraving/gold plating on a transferable. The M11 usually gets upgraded with modern uppers, fire control parts anyhow. Refinishing (parkerizing etc.) in order to restore the gun to original factory appearance may be worth consideration.

I think it would bring less money…seriously I don’t know anyone who would want a gold plated Mac. Anyone that buys it is going to most likely have it refinished. If I was in the market I’d pass on it and look for one with any other finish than gold.

I wouldn’t. Most of the gold plated and engraved firearms I have ever seen were basically upgraded versions of a nice firearm. The MACs are expensive firearms, but they are not nice firearms. Seems like sort of a lipstick-on-a-pig situation. But maybe some finance bro or influencer or whatever would shell out extra for it? I could see it being popular at a rental range.

Thanks for the responses. Again was just a thought. I recently saw a semi one on gunbroker that looked really nice so I got the idea. But yes most ppl change the uppers and that alone would be a hard sell. I’ll just refinish it.

We’ve talked about that vendor before. He’s dropped the price by thousands with no sale result, and then he marks back up to original price. They sit for 1yr++

Would you engrave and gold plate an Uzi expecting more, or a faster sale? I don’t see that panning out either.

If the MAC needs a refinish, parkerizing is the way to go.

I bought a laser engraved desert eagle. I dinged the seller by a good amount of money so I could get the engraving polished out. Still ended up ahead - that’s how bad I dinged the price on his “masterpiece”.

One guy here years ago did nickel boron, gave it that grayish silver look, but it’s also “functional” in that it has lubricity.

He also did his mini Uzi. A Pair of Nines. It looked cool with the black grips etc

I’ve seen some very ornate gold plated, semi automatic M11/9s on GB.. they give big vato cholo ese’ drug cartel vibes. I don’t think any of them have ever sold, they just sit there clogging up the search for the last couple years, then again they are also asking transferable machine gun prices for a very tacky looking closed bolt semi.

I don’t think anybody that has the interest in a transferable M11 is gonna want one that’s gold plated. These tend to be entry-level machine guns for guys that are trying to get into class III without breaking the bank and want a serious gun they can shoot and possibly compete with or want a cool nostalgic collectible, the gold gun crowd and the transferable MAC crowd don’t really seem to overlap much.

Oh those look great
They do. If you're going to do it, do it with a matched modern upper and at least one matched magazine. I still wouldn't do it. I think it actually looks best in HK black matched with a Lage upper, who iirc uses HK black on the uppers.

But if you're going to sell it in OEM form, park it and move on. If you are going to send it out to get parked, I'd consider sending it to https://macmachineguns.com and have Sam go through it as well, that could actually increase it's resale value.

All told though, the price difference between a stripped rough lower with a transferable SN and no internal parts, and a nice example with a matching box, instruction manual, and all OEM accessories is about $1,000, and no more than $1,500.

Saddam Hussein had a nice collection of gilded pew pews, toilets and other toys. I lost all those images on a laptop drive years ago
