We were testing the CF-W A bolt in a Max-31 Mk2 upper and I asked my grandson to pull some singles (we had been doing mag dumps to check ROF). After the first shot there was short stroking for the next 29 rnds. He told me he took his hand off the grip to show me it wasn't him holding the trigger down. As the VISA ad goes his expression was priceless.

He stayed nice and calm. Good training grandpa. Yea, that's a whole lot of stroke for a short bolt.

Tell him to keep his eye on where the bullets are going for goodness sake! Runaway or not!

Lucky you were using CF-W A bolt, and he was old enough to handle a full auto, would've been a pretty bad experience if he was smaller and it was a standard bolt. Remember when that nine year old girl accidentally shot that range instructor in Arizona with a FA? Never really felt comfortable with new shooters handling a FA, especially if they're not even in highschool yet. Runaway or not, I'd be pretty nervous if a kid was shooting a full auto if they also weren't really much familiar with them.

Your grandson certainly handled it well though, I'm assuming he's had experience with machine guns prior to that accident, though he probably should've kept an eye on to where it was pointed towards the end. Still though, handled it better than some people who experience runaways :)

So was it an ammo issue? or is there a part inside that needs replacing?

To answer some questions. He has fired about 3k rounds with various setups on the M11/9. There was no mechanical malfunction, these were light reloads that functioned without issue with the Lage OEM bolt, but the heavier CF-W A bolt just requires factory level load. This video was of 147gr loads about 950fps. Warning: Watching someone pull a lot of singles is boring.

Very calm. Be sure to pick up a new FCG with some fresh steel. Maybe send a picture of the bolt face to Lage/CF/whoever just to make sure any notable wear all checks out?

Thank you for helping teach this young man how to handle the unexpected.

Though, there is plenty of time to discuss things when the smoke clears.

what did you need to do to get the A bolt working in the max31 just swap the recoil spring and ejector rod?

Oh wow, so he's certainly had lots of time with full autos! I'm sure he has you to thank for giving him a very enjoyable experience :) Thank you for teaching him how to properly handle these kinds of firearms, wish there were more guys like you that are willing to do something like that.

He sure kept his cool. I had an uzi the would fire a shot or two after I let go of the trigger. I found that unnerving enough (new sear fixed it).

Kudos to your Grandson, he handled it better than most. IMHO, you should invite him to join Uzitalk! We need young members!!!
