I’m happy to hear you love the bolt. The paper clip mod is used to allow the user to clip coils from the recoil spring to adjust the ROF to suit their individual needs. A pair of needle nose pliers and a paper clip are all that’s required. A spread of about 150 RPM can be achieved with the Super Slow springs I sell along with clipping spring coils.Cool thanks guys!
I figured it was something simple like that. I love this bolt, it’s the perfect match for my Lage SK upper.
Richard also uses the E clip on his ‘31 series of uppers. It’s a great idea. For most users, removing or installing the roll pin recoil retainer presents a real challenge. Some people have discovered you need a third hand for reinstalling the roll pin. The reason behind Mike’s paperclip mod was to allow easy recoil spring clipping and swapping with common tools and minimal experience. I’m disappointed more people haven’t experienced what the W bolts are truly capable of by clipping just a couple of coils from the spring. It’s so easy and the results are impressive with no reduction in reliability.I really like the paperclip mod over the roll pin as it's easier and faster to change springs.
If I ever do need to change the recoil rod, I think I will cut down a M11/9 rod and add a E-clip like Lage uses in the 22 kits. It's even easier and faster to change out than the paper clip mod. No tools needed.

Providing it runs 100%, you can clip two or three. I know it doesn’t seem a couple of coils would make much difference, but it’s huge.I use mine in a SK upper. How many coils should I clip off if I want to try slowing it down a little more?
I assembled a batch of A bolts using a smaller diameter wire, (paper clip), than usual to secure the recoil spring to the guide rod. Some of these “slipped during shipping. Replace with a larger size paperclip and you won’t have the floppy ejector rod problem. My apologies for the failure to identify the problem on my end, but it’s a quick and easy fix with a pair of needle nose pliers and large paperclip.
* This is not an issue with the longer M-11/9 CF-W bolts or a A bolt set up for use in the small frame M-11 or M11-A1 guns. They swallow enough of the ejector rods to not pose a problem no matter what size clip is used.
