Guys -

I need a recommendation for a smith in Houston. Fairly simple job, just need someone to wrench the original flash suppressor off my FNC and install the (supplied) AAC Blackout 51t mount. Don't want to send the rifle out for this, would love for a local smith who isn't confused by the left hand threads...

thanks

Depending on how tight it is and how much it has been shot, special wrench clamps may need to be made to remove the original hider w/o damage. I ended up having to build one based on the number of rebarrelings I was doing. In fact, I've had a few people send me their uppers just to remove the factory flash hiders after others already tried unsuccessfully to remove the original w/o damage.

From experience, some come off w/ only moderate effort and others just refuse to budge without a major effort. I don't know of anyone in Houston that specifically works on FNCs, but I'm up in Dallas if you don't have any luck locally. Just PM me if you have any interest.

I recently took the short hider off my Howco gun and replaced it with the long hider. Another member here on the Board did the work and he made a barrel jig out of oak blocks and held the assembly in a vice. He heated the short hider up with a torch to almost a glow and it came off with a wrench and about 150 lbs of weight (about 75% of my big butt hanging on the wrench). No damage to the barrel the threads or the short hider. Some sort of jig to hold the barrel is a MUST!

I had to cut the one from my friend Daves. I had been shot alot. I could clamp it in my barrel vice but even after heating it till it glowed slightly would not budge. I was putting 200+ ftlbs on it at one point.
