I am having a problem where my IMI Model B will not fire and then as soon as I touch the bolt to open the chamber it will fire. Wakes you right up if you were not already. I know there is a close tolerance under the top cover, would using grease there cause this problem. I have thoroughly cleaned the gun and I am going back to the range. The problem seems to happen when the gun has been stored for a while like during an ammo shortage ! :confused

Ok, I sprayed everything down w/ brake cleaner, re-lubed with Millitech and went back to the range.
I fired 150 flawless rounds. Still don't have any answers.

It sounds like the striker was hanging up on the sear or bolt. I worked on a model A that had a similar problem. It was nearly new/unfired. I stoned the leading edge of the striker where it came in contact with the sear and it ran great after that.

Thanks for your reply. I will check that out, but it only seems to happen after the gun is stored for a while!

Depending on the gun oil you use it might gum some and become sticky a good cleaning should fix it and use a different gun lube

Ditto on the causes above. Probably a combination of sharp edges/tight tolerances. My lube of choice is Non-detergent 30 weight! I know I'll get yelled at over here for that, but it works & it's cheap. If you read almost any nomenclature, they'll recommend almost any lubricant that's available in the field for an old military weapon, including lube from the motorpool..............last I heard, that's an UZI.
I'd also recommend shooting the crap out of it, this will wear the parts & help them mate better.

I like the idea of shooting the crap out of it and it seems the ammo supply may be loosening up. I am also not using grease anymore and will just use the Millitech!
