Or are they still really hit or miss? A friend wants a .223 rifle, and I am trying to wean him off the ar series and towards an ak varient. I think he'd be better off with an ak style, but I know these century rifles have had serious reciever issues.....are they good now? You guys are the experts, are they decent?

I think they have more issues now, then before.

I spent last weekend with the employee's of the now defaunt "Allied Armament"; which makes 50 round drums now (XS Products).

The stories told to me about Century's business practices is crazy.

Bottom line; they are cheaper than cheap; which goes straight to their quality.

I suppose if you get a AK from them; at least you are better off.

I got a 47 / 74 from them as beater rifles (like I don't care if something happens to them); and they shoot good. I bought them used locally for dirt cheap.
But its the AK's loose tolerances / great design that allows Century to get away with it.

But I will never buy from them again; nor recommend them.

I just got a Galil from them, paid $249 for it, was supposed to be "incomplete" though they don't tell me what's incomplete about it up front. Got it on Thursday. Rifle looked brand new, nothing missing. Mag would not seat. Close inspection showed a .0375 protrusion of metal inside of the magwell that had not been milled off properly. It took me a whole 5 minutes to flip the receiver over, clamp it on my mill table, and a whole 10 seconds to gently smooth it off. For $249, I got a complete rifle. Planned on shooting it this weekend but too many things going on along with shitty weather.

I am willing to bet this rifle was sold to someone, and promptly returned when the buyer could not seat any mag into the rifle. They (Century) rather sell the rifle to a gunsmith for 250 bucks, than look at it and correct the problem. I am ok with that, when I can get a deal like this.

I like to hear more stories about these.......I guess I doubt I'll be recommending them though to anyone, unless people start raving about them......

My yugo series ak's from century have been GREAT rifles, have owned several, m70b1, m70AB2, m72......all with one minor exception were great. Shame we cannot get a good galil.......

I had a bad one from Bud's Gun Shop and sent it back. I ordered another one from Henderson Defense Industries where they "Certify" the rifle before selling it. I don't know what that entails, but this one shot straight and cycled well.

It's been great. I did have some failure to extract after round 80 of steel cased, but that may have been due to a dirty chamber. I polished it but haven't shot it again since.
