So I was playing around the other day and welded 4.5" of a sten mag on the bottom of one of my surefire mags. The sten mag is a little bigger but I just lined it up off the front and welded it up. I used the sten spring(stretched out) but am now thinking I need to either get a longer spring or couple two together. Any ideas on attaching two springs together?

some people actually weld them together and/or tie them with some wire but then they can break and it seems to happen at the worst times like during a competition. It is better to get a stiffer spring from another mag and do it right but then getting the correct tension is a challenge. Lots of people weld two mags together and experiment with the springs.

The Surefire mags are modified PAM2 mags, like Recon Ordnance, right ? I am thinking of doing the exact same thing... PLEASE post photos. Also, how did the internal rib of the Sten mag affect things... did you remove it or was this not necessary ?

The rib lines up with the back of the pam2 mag perfectly. I think I got it to work good with about 40 rds. I think it will work perfect if the follower dosn't go into the sten part. I didnt want to cut up 2 of my pam2 mags so that is why I used the sten mag. I will try to get some pics up later. I just got called in for 3 days and have to go in at 7pm. - Art

It works awesome! I tried it out yesterday afternoon and it functioned perfectly. I need to paint it and it will be done. I put 44 rds in it.

Great news - please post as many pics as you can. I recently did something similar, but using Recon Ordnance/PAM2 mags as a donor. The mag on the left hold 45 rounds, loads by hand, and runs 100%:

Not bad. Here's one that I had Bustoff make a couple of years ago (middle-right), from 2 of the PAM-2 mags. It holds 58 and runs great. It's shown next to a standard PAM-2 mag.

The other two are a Greasegun mag, and a Tactical Innovations cut/welded 50-round mag.

I'm more interested in the drum you have shown. Is that set up for an M11? did you build it? I don't know that anyone is making them for the M11/Mac10 any more.

Yes, I made the drum mag on the right myself copying the basic concept of the C&S original. The tower is made from a PAM2 mag with about 4" cut off the bottom. I have not had much time to test the drum, but it seems to run OK in my MAX-11. The jury is out on whether it will be reliable enough for match use though.

The bottom part of the donor PAM2 mag that got cut off was recycled to create the 45-round stick you see on the left. Two for the price of one :D .

I crimp the two springs together w/ a crimping tool and some brass grommets. I have never had a failure and its a heck of a lot cheaper than purchasing a new longer spring.

You then have too tune the springs length acording to the legth of the magazines, cutting a few coils off at a time until they work properly.

This doesn't take long to do and is fairly simple.
