GEAS unit in action

Here is Grupo Especial Antisecuestro (Special Group Anti-Kidnapping) GEAS in action. This picture was taken in the city of Yuscaran as the unit was on a operation. These operators use the Beretta AR 70/80 series battle rifle. The city of Yuscaran is where the Honduran national drink "Guaro" comes from. It is basically pure grain alcohol. Back in the 1980's US GI's on TDY at Palmerola where not allowed to drink this spirit, not only did it royally mess you up but you would get a massive dose of lead in your blood stream. Back in those days the distilling mills still used lead in the pipes used for distilling the product. The US Military had this Honduran Spirit tested and they did find high levels of lead.

9mm vs. 7.62 X 39

In Tegucigalpa today with all the odds against them, Security agents from a armoured car company foiled an armed robbery against them. The robbers even with the element of surprise, firing AK-47's and using two vehicles where unable to pull off the robbery. The security guards only armed with 9mm handguns held off the attack. Using the armoured car to shield themselves in a defensive position. The bad guys ran out of ammunition unsucessfully trying to take out the guards. The heavily armed robbers gave up and left. The security guards did suffer injuries one was shot in the leg but continued to fire back. Another guard was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Both are expected to survive. These guys are heroes in my book.

RPG's go missing from Military installation

As pressure to purge the bad apples out of the Honduran Armed Forces grows. The Honduran goverment learned that 22 RPG-7's with ammunition were stolen from a military installation just outside Tegucigalpa. The Honduran goverment has launched an investigation. This is unwelcome news for the US, Spain, Israel and Chile having just announced additional help with weapons and financial aid for Honduras. Honduras is set to start recieving the first shipments of M-4's from the US and TAR-21's from Israel. In the pictures Honduran National Police inspect one of the missing RPG-7's recovered in 2010. The other picture is of a Guatemalan SF soldier with a TAR-21. Guatemala also uses the Galil rifle in their armed forces. The majority of surplus Galil parts that make it to the US come from Guatemala.

In the next pictures you will see SA-M7 and Galil's during Honduras's first ever extradition request for a wanted Columbian drug lord. The police arrived at Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa at 10:00 a.m. to greet their new guest. This extradition involved the Interpol and the full cooperation of the Columbian goverment.

Confiscated Guns

Honduran Police proudly displaying confiscated guns after a security operation in the city of Olancho. Look closely and you will see agents armed with Galil SAR's. These guns are usually collected at road blocks. All vehicles and person's aboard are searched for illegal weapons, drugs and paperwork. These guns are taken from the owners that cannot produce proper permits to carry these weapons. The owners are usually set free and have a grace period to reclaim their weapon after producing the proper paperwork. On thing Honduran gun owners prefer are stainless steel guns when possible (as you can see on the table) because of the humidity in the tropics.

Kidnapping foiled

In these pictures you will see what Honduran Police are up against more these days. That would be well armed gangbangers. These gang members where in the process of kidnapping a laywer when they where intercepted by the Police. The team of gang members where armed with AR-15's, police issue body armor and balaclavas. The whole plan was foiled by crime wary citizens calling the police and reporting "men impersonating police agents" commiting a crime. 4 gangmembers did escape.

Clandestine strips

Here is the latest pictures of a Narco plane. This plane has landed in one of the estimated 60 clandestine airstrips. It is estimated that only 5% of these planes are ever captured. Half of the 5%, is due to planes being damaged by these dangerous night landings. The blue barrels contain fuel for the return or ongoing trip. The colored light bulbs are to illuminate the hidden airstrip for night landings.

In this picture you can see some of the gear used to land these planes. GPS is used of course and chargers for radios and walkie talkies. Most of the narco pilots are helped in by a ground observer to aid in the night time landings and offloading the drugs for continued transport to the USA.

Hi BadKarma, Thanks for the pictures. I have been wanting to post some of the information about the prison fire. Most info and pics are pretty gruesome and really show a lot of people hurting from losing a loved one in the fire. I believe the count is shy of 377 dead. Just close to half the population of that prison in Comayagua. The picture you see is of the Honduran National Police (prisoners dept) firing thier Berreta rifles at the ground in a attempt to hold back a crowd that wanted to enter the prison to find out if they had lost a family member in the fire. Of course due to security the guards orders where not to let anyone to prevent inmates escaping or the inmates taking hostages. The crowd had already thrown rocks at the guards so things where really tense. There have be a couple of theories on how the fire started one is faulty wires and another is a inmate lighting his matress on fire in protest. Todays headlines now say the fire was set by inmates in a escape attempt. A lot of world wide coverage is focused on this incident right now. Honduras has been in the news also for having the highest murder rate in the world and a skyrocketing cime rate. Add the drug trade and Honduras is in a crisis. There is a reason the prisons are overcrowded in Honduras. Lou
