Sidewinder I agree with you. There is an inherent fear of getting involved in these matters. These sicarios (hitmen) have no moral compass or compassion for fellow human beings. They can kill a person and then go to sleep with no remorse. If one where to get in the way they will kill you as well as their intended target. I guess what I am trying to say is that the bad guys have done a good job at making the Honduran population fear them. Then add to the fact that 95% of murders go unsolved in Honduras. Its no wonder the Honduran population is afraid to get involved. My parents live in the capital and they do all their errands during the day, then at night they stay indoors. They tell me the night belongs to "Los Salvajes" (the savages).Besides the obvious tragedy of the officer's death, what's is equally disgusting is that no one goes to the aid of the officer during the struggle and motorists drive past the officer when he is down as though he's merely something in the road.
