EL Lobo Negro goes down

So El Presidente of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernandez has not let off the heat on the bad guys since taking office. His hard line stance on crime is beginning to show some gains. The HNP was able to catch another drug kingpin El Lobo Negro (the black wolf) while he was cruising around San Pedro Sula in his late model Porsche Cayenne. He was totally taken by surprise by the elite COBRA's Unit. The reports say that HNP was able to track him down by his cell phone number. Early this year the HNP announced they had new secret technology to use against the bad guys in reference to cell phones. I suspect the HNP are using a device called a Stingray (which is used by LEO's in the USA BTW). A Stingray basically acts as a portable cell phone tower. When turned on it captures cell phone calls and numbers in that area.

Well anyways here is some pictures for you to enjoy. Lou

Pictured: El Lobo Negro is carried away by a unit of the COBRA's right after his capture.

Here is a picture that shows great detail of the Bulgarian AR-M4 SF (I wish they where still Galil SAR's) that the COBRA's unit utilizes. Boy! El Lobo Negro can clearly be seen having a bad day. One thing with Honduras, if you are on the U.S. most wanted list. Honduras has one of the speediest extradition treaties with the U.S.A. they don't "Dick Dance" around. :hung

Here is a better picture of El Lobo Negro's arrest swarmed by the elite COBRA's unit. Great Job!

This picture shows El Lobo Negro as he arrives in Tegus compliments of a Honduran Air Force (FAH) Huey. You can see the COBRA's are not taking any chances with an escape. As I have told you in the past the Honduran COBRA's are a hardcore unit. These guys see more action than most larger metropolitan U.S. cities. They are seasoned professional and have lost many operators in the line of work. San Pedro Sula still holds the record for the highest murder rate in the world. The majority of these murders are due to gang on gang fighting and drug violence. Thanks for tuning in. Lou

Keep up the great work Mr. President Juan Orlando Hernandez!

Semi Auto Guatemalan Galil On Gunbroker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=405744156

"Israeli-Guatemalan military cooperation began in 1971, during the presidency of Col. Carlos Arana Osario. Then the Guatemalan chief of staff, Kjell Eugenio Laugerud (who would become the next president), visited Israel and met with Defense Minister Moshe Dayan and other Israeli military officials. Kjell Eugenio Laugerud (KEL) expressed Guatemala’s interest in procuring armaments and military communications equipment. Later that year, the two countries signed their first cooperation agreement, though specifics were not made public.

In 1974, Kjell Eugenio Laugerud (KEL) became president in what was generally considered to be a fraudulent election and he was a General in the Guat Army before becoming President of Guatemala. Just prior to taking office in April, he made a private visit to Israel, announcing his wish to widen cooperation with that nation. The first Israeli-Guatemalan arms agreement was signed within months. In the early seventies, Israeli-made Galil assault rifles, arrived in Guatemala. Which became standard issue for the Guatemalan Army.

What is interesting about this Galil rifle is that it's a KEL. The Guatemalan KEL was a rifle all of its own, dating back in time to the Guatemalan Civil war years. The Guatemalan government was a partner in the economic policies that made life miserable for the majority of its impoverished citizens. It is clear that the force that drove the Civil War for the insurgents in Guatemala was the reality of economic oppression and violence that existed on a daily basis, inflicted primarily by the governing elite. The Guatemalan Government placed a order of Galils to IMI of a new variant specially made by IMI for the Guatemalan Army.

This version of the Galil was specially made in Israel at the request of the Guatemalan Army. This rifle was basically a ARM but they deleted the Bi-pod and the carry handle. They also made this rifle to fire only in a semi-automatic and latter full auto for the Kaibiles (Guatemalan Special Forces). The forward handguards were produced locally in Guatemala by enslaved local Indigenous Indians from mahogany to prevent wood rotting/swelling and is deep red in color. The ancient Indians used mahogany for making canoes because it was excellent for boating purposes due to its water resistance.

The reasoning behind some of these modifications where as follows. The deletion of bipod & carry handle prevented them from snagging in the dense jungle found in Guatemala. The semi-auto version was to force the soldiers from wasting ammunition firing in full auto. The first rifles arrived in the early seventies and were used by the newly established Kaibiles (Guatemalan Special Forces) which came to be in 1974.

Kjell Eugenio Laugerud (KEL) also helped found the Guatemalan special forces "Kaibiles" during this period many of the KEL rifles where modified to the SAR configuration with full auto for the new KAIBILES forces. This KEL Galil was one such full auto rifle which was reconstructed by Two Rivers Arms from a seasoned Civil War full auto era rifle that latter served duties within the Presidential Guard.

This KEL is marked number twenty eight of one hundred believed to have been selected for Presidential Guard service comprised of the most elite Guat Kaibiles. The name "Kaibil" is derived from Kayb'il B'alam (Kaibil Balam), a Mam indigenous leader who evaded capture by the Spanish conquistadors under Pedro de Alvarado. In the Latin American Media they actually refer to this Galil as a KEL.

Provenance: Israeli built and exported, Guatemala imported, KEL (President), Semi-Auto Army service, Full-Auto modified for Kaibiles special operations, KEL Presidential Guard service number twenty-eight of one hundred. A collection of documents, military metals, publications and other artifacts included with purchase.

Notes of interest, not marked with IDF Crest, no Hebrew markings anywhere, selector markings S A N, stamped F.A. GALIL, originally IMI constructed and marked as such, GUAT stamped, KEL stamped, originally semi auto for Army service, modified to full auto for Guatemalan Special Forces service, stamped on bottom of receiver for Presidential Guard service, demilitarized, returned to semi auto, reconstructed to it's present state."

RSR thanks for the contribution!

Riderboy, In Honduras YONI can also be a reference to the name Johnny. It is much easier to pronounce the "Y" than the "J" in Spanish so some people spell it how they pronounce it, but you never know maybe it was Netanyahu's hand me down rifle that arrived in Honduras? You just never know in Central America!

Your "KEL'in" me

Here is a picture of a couple of Guatemalan Army soldiers with the famous KEL Galil. If you remember these are basically Galil ARM's that have been converted to semi-auto only fire (so soldiers would not waste ammo in full-auto fire during fire-fights) and 86'd the bi-pods (so the bi-pods would not get hung up in the jungle vegetation).

Here is a picture of the Paraguay Army Airborne unit (Green Berets) with Galil AR's. I really like the magazine carrier's vest they use. Does anybody know who makes these? South African?
