My FA Vector Uzi has a problem with a few of my magazines. The bolt rubs the feed lips on those magazines. I tested thusly:
I found a number of magazines that do in fact interfere with bolt movement.
What's the best way to adjust a mag's feed lips?
FWIW, I've been troubleshooting an occasional problem -- light strikes and failures to feed. When trying another recoil spring didn't fix the problem, I began looking elsewhere.
With a known good (never failed) magazine, I tried every cartridge type I have on hand. No problems. I shot only on semi-auto because this is when the bolt has the least energy to chamber and fire a cartridge.
Then I moved to testing my 25-round magazines as per above. I've never had this problem with my 32 or 40-round mags, but I'll test them today just in case.
I recently bought some surplus 25-round mags. It's probably some of these that are the culprits.
The procedure above is quick and easy to do and will now be part of the drill any time I buy any new Uzi magazines.
Anyway, what the best way to adjust these mags' feed lips?
- Removed the top cover and then removed the spring from the bolt
- Placed the bolt back into the receiver and checked for free movement with grip safety and trigger pressed in FA mode. The bolt slides back and forth freely.
- Removed the guts from each magazine. (It seems normal for the follower of an assembled magazine to rub the bolt. It does so on every single one of mine. That's why I removed the guts before testing. I'm looking for abnormal rubbing. )
- Inserted each magazine and, pressing grip safety and trigger in FA mode, slid the bolt back and forth noting any rubbing of the bolt against the magazine being tested.
