My buddy has a Max 11k, and I have a Max 10/9 Mk2.

The vertical movement in the 10/9 Mk2 is insanely more than the 11k. The 11k shoots like a type writer. You can almost spell out a letter with it. It doesn't matter if the ROF is increased or decreased with buffers - it just shoots so much flatter.

The 10/9 Mk2 is so bouncy you are lucky to get all of the rounds on a steel IPSC at 25 yards.

Is there any way to mitigate this? I wonder if it has something to do with the heavier mass of the reciprocating bolt in the 10/9 Mk2?

Bolt mass should be similar. I suspect it is the shorter stroke of the M10 vs M11/Nine. I don't have a MK2 so no experience there; however, the Max10/31 to me is smother than the Max31 or Max31k, which would disprove my theory on the shorter action being the culprit. Are stocks on the two firearms of similar design? The stock angle can affect weather the weapon recoils straight back into your shoulder or rotates upwards.

As nklf mentioned whether the stock is inline or not probably has the single biggest effect. Here's a video from a couple days ago where he shoots his new max10/15 alongside his older max11/15. The stock on the mac10 is far under where it is on the m11/9. I remember watching old videos on the M16 vs. the AK-47 and Stoner's use of a recoiling mechanism that went straight into the shooter's shoulder (along with the 22 bullet) made it much lighter recoiling than the Russian counterpart.
