For me, my earliest MAC association was with Miami Vice, specifically the episode “Evan”. In the opening, the title character demonstrates the effectiveness of the gun by wielding two and shooting mannequins with atypical never-ending magazine of ammunition. The Ingram was pretty much the staple of the “Cocaine Cowboys” era, and entertainment pretty much followed suit.

Just realized we mentioned Desperado but not El Mariachi (The first movie of Robert Rodriguez's "Mexico Trilogy", the third being Once Upon a Time in Mexico).

Funfact: IIRC this is actually a semi-auto M10/9. Frames were looped to give the impression of F/A fire. El Mariachi was at the time one of the highest grossing films with the lowest possible production value; most of the actors are Rodriguez's relatives and the firearms were borrowed from his "gun-nut" uncle.

IIRC...

Fun fact: I was at a human trails lab in Austin, TX called "Pharm Co" getting paid as a lab rat for a summer to pay for college. I met Richard Rodriguez who was there having plugs cut in his chest for $ to finance that movie. We talked scrips and writing for movies.

They cut small plugs out of his chest to see which antibacterial creams healed better.

My first cognizant movie viewing of a MAC-10 was Falling Down with Michael Douglas.

I knew the Mac was good for combat in a phonebooth, but this was the first time I realized it was good for combat with a phone booth!
