Intratec AB10

Just picked up a Intratec AB10, which is the post ban version of a tec 9. Have always heard what a crappy gun they are, but I have to say IMO they are not as bad as people said.

The machine work seems similar in quality to the M3 grease gun I carried in the army, and it has yet to have a malfunction.

All in all a neat, cheap to shoot little gun that actually would make a decent home defense weapon.

I picked up a Tec9 6or7 years ago, mainly because
1) It pisses of liberals that I can have it;
2) It was cheap!;
3) it looks badass!

I stopped counting rounds a long time ago,& only use cheap FMJs, (no +p),& have had no problems whatsoever.
IMHO, it's a great "fun gun",especially w/a laser! (So you can blast 2 liter bottles from the hip like an '80s Action Movie Hero!)

That was the main reason I traded for it, because it pisses off the powers that be LOL. Didn't know I would take a liking to it. And yes I have already hip fired it

Mark Halloway (Spelling) had a website at one time (25th CTC) that sold really cheese aftermarket thread adapters for it so you can thread your favorite device to the end of it!

My brother is a gunsmith with a machine shop, thinking of getting him to make me a barrel extension with a heat shield that will go on with set screws. Still pondering that one.

Waltham41: I have always liked those also. Half lb different in weight between it and a 1911. Are the mags pricey?

I've heard similar complaints from some, while others swear theirs were 100% reliable.
I haven't had any problems with mine, but I only run FMJ.

Maybe Intratec had QC problems?

Dunno about the AB10, but have had experience working on several Tec9s. Magazines are the number one issue with feeding problems, aftermarkets usually do not work. The factory ones seem to work OK with FMJ, the guns do not generally like anything else. And if you ever get a case blowout in one, the plastic lower splits apart at the magwell. One I saw was beyond repair, the other I managed to epoxy back together and use a bolt and nut instead of the mag release pin to secure it. Another broke off the cocking handle, which are available probably because they break off a lot.

Reliability is of course gun dependent and also user dependent. The usual polish of the feed ramp, smoothing bolt travel, etc. is sometimes required on mass produced items.

My Mac's are also a hit at the range as well, I always get people to say "is that one of those things that "Gang Bangers'" use? Can I try it? I do not hand them the open bolt weapons, just a closed bolt M-11/Nine!

The other comment I hear is "That's one of those guns that the Asian gangsters use in the movies"!

This is one of the reasons I hate to shoot at public indoor and outdoor ranges!

You can find 32 rd mags for it made by the same company that made the original mags for 20 each... all I have at this time is a 20 rd and the weapon runs fine. I will find out if the new mags work as good when I get a couple. So far I'm liking this little critter.

Here is my Intratec family. Pre-ban, Post-ban, 22lr. I don't really shoot them much. Mainly test fired each one. I bought them for the collector's value.

The Tec 22 was a very fun weapon to play with! It seem to work a lot better then the others in my opinion. I miss it, but an idiot at a gun show gave me 550 bucks for it!

I'm addicted to .22 semi auto pistols... I'm going to have to find me a Tec22 to play with.

Tec22s can be made to work. Main issue I ran into was really tight chambers, a match .22 reamer would cut metal in all of them I ran it through. Lot less jams afterward though!

Finally got a new National Mag 32 rd mag for the AB10, tested it out today and it worked and fed fine. I guess I'm lucky, my little pistol is very dependable.

That they are, and cheap to shoot! Mine runs the Tula and Wolf steel case just fine
