Hello all....I was looking at a lot of guns the other day and the guy has a NICKEL finished (upper only) TEC-22 scorpion! I have never seen one...he said it is a factory finish...I love the look of it...I will get pictures soon...

I have NO IDEA how rare these are compared to regular TEC-22's. I have to imagine much more rare as I have NEVER seen one before. I remember the Stainless Steel TEC-9's and such....

Anyone know how many of the factory nickel guns were made? Is it indeed factory finish? if so...what is the premium for these...I am wondering what to offer (% above normal prices......ball park) and make sure I do not get sucked it by the cool factor lol as opposed to its value.

Thanks for any input....

Seems they are fairly rare. I did a uick check, and it looks like a nickel finish is a factory thing with those. It would be the Tec-22N. I would guess that the N suffix would denote nickel. In my uick look, I was unable to find prices. It is listed in the bluebook (with photo), I do not have an account, so I can't see their number. In the quick search I did see a lot of reliability issues with the gun...

Ya it's not often you can search GB for current and closed listings and not see one single one listed lol of any gun! Ya they are not the best gun at all...zero doubt there...it's a nostalgic item for me as I had a few Tec-ss's way back in the day so it would be cool since this guy has a NIB nickel one( which i've never seen that model) as a salute to my past fun guns I had in the 80's and 90's :)

I really want to see something like those made again, but this time they should work.

Irresistible desire to duel wield with Super Safety and 200 rd drums.

With 3D printing now you can make basically an AR-15 fire control group receiver that would work with the SS and accept the balance of the original parts. One of the major issues in the reliability was the magwell was loose on the magazines. That could be easily fixed in a 3D printed receiver. If you were just going for the general look you might can build one from scratch using something like a 10/22 bolt.

I've been thinking a lot about a 10/22 SS. There is probably a reason why it's not available yet in closed bolt. Open bolt is much easier because bolt bounce is not an issue. I also think about all the things Norrell did to get his 10/22 CB bolt to run in FA reliably. long barrel length, large ball detent, large sliding bolt weight, nothing over 25 round mags. If I missed something let me know.

Boat bounce is a problem, with a 10/22 or existing design you are limited in putting in things like a bolt buffer like you see in a AR-15, basically the same function as the sliding weight. In addition one of the lesser known full Auto conversions added a locking piece for the bolt into the mix. Basically a notch was machined into the bolt and a spring loaded lever would pop up into the notch whenever the bolt closed, locking it forward and eliminating bolt bounce. There was a pin added to the Hammer that interacted with the locking lever, pushing it down out of engagements whenever the hammer went forward to fire the gun and allowing the bolt to cycle. It was called the TEK conversion and it was usually a red cover book you saw at every gun show back in the day. If you Google it the locking lever is the top right photograph on the cover.

With a brand new design or one with enough room to add things you have options for eliminating bolt bounce. A truly new design maybe you can even design in some sort of retarder mechanism that slows down the release of the hammer a few microseconds, long enough for bolt bounce to be over by the time it hits the firing pin. This would have the added benefit of slowing down the cyclic rate, which tends to be high in the 10/22 conversions.

They released a not well reviewed G-FRT. I hope they do better on this one.

ROF 821 RPM
The sound signature looks weird.
It's like the microphone is picking up the trigger reset. It can be heard in the first video in slow mo.
It kinda looks like they are bump firing it in the first video as the trigger hand is very loose.

Yes. Whoever comes out with a good, reliable FRT for the 10/22 for a decent price (I'd say under $200) will sell a million of them. According to the NRA there were over 8 million of them made by 2020.
