Any info on the lack of a recoil spring in my mac? Looks like it has a pin that uses the A2 buffer and spring instead. Is this an old school mod? Does it affect rate of fire?

Your original description of the gun included "slow-fire kit with A2 stock installed". It seems that it has "TASK slow fire conversion" installed. They drill a hole in the receiver for this to work and it does change ROF. A couple of the parts might have to do with that conversion, IDK.

So, another couple dumb questions.

My take down pin has a groove in the center and the upper has a locking lever. I was reading this is an early design. Correct?

For another upper I assume it is as easy as a KNS pin to keep those in place.

Derp. You are right. So, it's a TASK conversion then. Thanks! I wasn't aware of the name of the mod.

Congratulations on your M10. So you know, the TASK slow fire conversion is not as popular in a M10 as a M11/NINE. The M10 does not have as much length of travel as the M11/NINE. So I can add enough mass to the buffer (I use a carbine stock to get a shorter length of pull) the gun will short stroke. But I still find it challenging to pull singles in full auto. The buffer bottoms out just after the bolt clears the sear. Because I can add enough mass to short stroke, I have been thinking about shortening the bolt to add more stroke. This would give me more time to get off the trigger so that the sear can catch the bolt. The bolt can't be shortened very much as the bolt supports the ejector unless there would be a collapsible support that would go inside the bolt at the end of the stroke.

Interesting. I think this would apply to the A1 as well which is a scaled version of the same dimensions. Have you played with the A1 frame at all?

The standard AR fixed stock uses the same receiver extension (buffer tube). The A1 stock is directly mounted and the A2 uses a 5/8" spacer and longer bolt because it has 5/8" longer length of pull. As I recall the standard rifle buffer has five steel weights. A carbine buffer has three weights. I used a MGI buffer that has a steel body instead of aluminum. I removed the springs and custom cut a tungsten buffer weight to fit to get the most mass I could in a carbine buffer. The TASK modified bolt and the custom buffer would make my Uzi magwell conversion M10 short stroke even with 124 grain NATO ammo. A H3 seems to work best with my TASK conversion. I had a couple of extra bolts down when I had my M10 TASK conversion done. I bought my M10 from a friend who had also signed up for a S.A.B.R.E. upper. He gave me his spot in line. I had Jim Weaver one of the two inventors of the TASK slow fire system convert my M10 as the hole for the TASK conversion is in the same location as the S.A.B.R.E. upper. Jim had told me that the TASK conversion was not as popular as the M11/NINE, because the the limited bolt stroke of the M10.

I don't really like a full size fixed stock. I square up to the target shooting off hand. I prefer a collapsible stock in the second notch out. I only use a fixed stock in the prone position for instance.

Thanks for the explanation!

Are there any good 20rnd mags on the market for the M10/45? Or at least something under 30rnds? Worst case I could probably cut one or two down.
