I bought this off gunbroker. Listed an a virgin IMI 1:7 barrel.

The only markings are:

01
12-88

It is 1:7 twist as advertised.

Before I send this barrel to TennGalil I want to be sure it's good to go.

Offhand, it seems early for a 1-7 twist. Typically twist is stamped between gas block and crown.

What's the barrel length? I *think* it might be one of the Blackthorne 16" ones which had some issues vs the 18" 1-7 twist barrels. The date stamp rings true for those barrels. Don't recall specifics, but I returned the ones I had purchased originally to blackthorne. Previous threads discuss all the issues w/ these barrels.

Jeff will let you know one way or the other what is going on. But AFAIK these are IMI barrels but presumably modified and shortened here in the USofA.

The barrel is 16.5". As I said there are no nother markings.

I know Jeff can tell me if there are any problems but I don't want to send my rifle and this barrel and then find out it's junk.

EDIT

I just found the Blackthorn barrel thread. My marking, twist, length, muzzle thread all match the descriptions there. My barrel even has the ridge at the muzzle as described.

So really my only question is can I use the barrel. Looks like it's usable but needs to be recrowned.

The true IMI barrels from that period were 1 in 12 twist. Only later (early 90's on) did they make the 1 in 7's and stamped it into the barrels. Black Throne came out with these different batch of barrels in the last year or two and have different findings; including brokers I know return the entire shipment of them because of out of spec findings.

I personally have seen these barrels with bad linings and almost to the point that they stamped these barrels to look like factory.

But data speaks; you need to gage it in the proper areas and do your barrel twist check; then you know what you have.

For comparison's sake, adding photos of a genuine IMI 1-7 barrel that Mr. Ugh! sold me several months ago:

I bought one of the 1 in 7 inch "IMI" Galil barrels from Blackthorne. NOT as advertised. It was NOT chrome lined, and the internal dimensions of the bore at the muzzle end seemed tight when I ran a patch through it (at very muzzle crown I'm pretty sure the internal diameter of the barrel was a bit smaller than further back). Weird I know.

For about $40 (I should not have expected much), but I view it as a mistake and will not ever order from them again.

Note: I did contact their customer service and they made out like I did not know what I was talking about).

Luckily, my IMI Galil 1 in 12 barrel will way outlast me since it is only used occasionally.

I will too concur on the Blackthorne's questionable stampings on barrels advertised as genuine IMI Galil. I guess it does not matter now, looks like Blackthorne is out of selling Galil parts I went to their site about a month ago and they have no Galil parts for sale.

Yep pretty much done, but be careful you can still get a worthless gas ARM block from them.:bang

Lol, you are right about that. I heard more members here posting that Jeff Miller could not use those gas blocks because they where out of whack. Kinda always wondered why the $65.00 ARM gas block seemed to be too good to be true when all the real IMI gas blocks where selling for + $200.00.

Yes barrel is good. Jeff just built a rifle for me using one. May have burrs in them. Mine did and he used a finish reamer to fix it. Have not shot it yet, but according to him, it is spot on.

Barrels are good to go and we're a steal for the price point. Jeff built me one as well on it and had to ream the chamber to allow proper headspace. They won't be of the highest quality, but they nitride and appear to be serviceable.

I had a few of those, and Jeff said they were, indeed, real IMI barrels, though they did not go through the final "proof testing", and probably final finishing, hence it could have burrs at the chamber and or muzzle end.
