It's rough, but it's mine

For no particular reason, last weekend I wandered into a pawn shop, that has always had a large selection of firearms, that I have not visited in years.

Low and behold, there sits a well used MR Galil 332 (MR09xxx) in .308, for $1700.

Bought it.

I've been searching for one I could afford, and the asking on Gunbroker has been crazy. The folding stock has rust on the top, but a dremel and some love will do the trick, and the fore grip is in rough shape as well, but it functions fine, and I couldn't be happier...so I had to join (yet another) forum.

Look forward to absorbing the knowledge.

Semper Fi!!

Tom

Wow.
I remember when a used MR 332 was still catching $2700.

I wonder what happened?

Great score. If it needs any work contact Tenngalil on this forum. Jeff is da man when it comes to building/refinishing/repairing Galils. There are many people here that have weapons he has repaired or built.

Again congrats on the new toy.

OK, so without a picture or two (or three) it didn't happen...fair enough...here's a picture or two. There is some crud on the top of the stock that I am working on removing, and I need a new hand guard. I shoot her tomorrow. And, my old USMC bayonet really does fit!!

Sorry about the feet in the picture.

Tenngalil had some extra .308 complete bolts for sale a few months ago, I think it would be worth investing in one of those. I did somehow manage to break an extractor on my "well used" .308. When you need one of those bolts, you won't be able to find one in a million years. You got a great deal on that baby!

Nice pics and boots!!! :thumbs_up Only $1700. :cool Searched high and low for one but didn't want to have to sell my spleen or 1 testicle on ebay to pay for it. I'll just keep collecting the parts when I can. :moon:moon:

I agree with Eyegun; put a ARM hand guard on it; along with a bipod. Looks like you have a MR model 332; early with the 20 inch barrel.

I you sure about the S/N starting with 09 ? Those only should be either 07 or 06. Also; what is the date code on the barrel?

I can't tell but is the folding stock an early hook style folder? It does not seem to have a rubber butt end on it.

adipose: You are correct about the serial#, I meant to change that in the original post. The shop had the wrong serial# on the tag (and the 4473!!). Luckily, I caught it for them. It is a 07xxx serial#, and 'MODEL 332' is stamped on the receiver. Regarding the date code on the barrel, there is an '02' on the top of the barrel under the gas tube, is that it? I didn't take the hand guard off yet if it's underneath, though I did find the lever to do that. And it is the 20" barrel variety.

Other items: The rear sight has the matching last 4 of the serial#, the receiver has '04' stamped near the front on the side where the typical AK safety lever is located, the bolt has a matching serial number to the rifle, but a -1 at the end, also, it has a '02 A' toward the front, the dust cover has 'A' stamped on the top, the gas block has a 'B H' offset with the 'H' being higher, and the "B' is backwards.

Speaking of hand guards, it is my intention to get a bi-pod for it, but I have been having trouble locating the wood hand guard; the polymer ones are easy to find, just not the wood one to tuck the bi-pod. Any links here would be greatly appreciated.

eyegun: I've seen a regular bi-pod and a quick release...not sure which type to get.

lcastillo: I'm not sure what to look for on the stock...I don't know what a 'hook style' is, sorry, I'm still learning. However, you are correct, there is no butt pad on the end of the stock.

Finally, took the old girl out the range yesterday and she did just fine. Printed all sub 3" groups at a 100 yards with my hand loads (168gr BTHP under 43gr of WW 748, LC brass, CCI 200 primers) from a bench, and had no issues at all during rapid fire. She beat the brass up pretty good, so I don't know how they will take to another loading. The dents in the case wall don't concern me as much as how the extractor claw mangled the rims during ejection.

Not sure how to adjust the front sight for windage, but that was the only issue.

WaffenT, take a picture of your stock and post it here. I will tell you what you have. I am on my smartphone so I can't look it up right now, but Mr Folgers has an excellent library reference about Galil rifles that includes notes on your rifle. If someone can help me out and post the link that would be great. If not I will send it to you later when I get home. Lou

P.s. The hook stock is the earliest folding stock for the .308 Galil. It is a desirable stock to have IMHO.

OK, here's the .308 with some newer 'stuff' on it. She's almost a complete ARM now.

Those savvy ones will notice I have not yet located an ARM rear hand guard retainer. If you have one you'd like to part with, please let me know...cash or trade.
