Ok you AR type FA nuts, here's my deal, and I'm curious what you think...

I've really got the bug for a registered AR-15 conversion or RDIAS of some sort, but I don't have any cash, only 3 mg's to sell or trade - Vector UZI, PS M10/45, and an M11/9. Out of those three, what combination should I expect to sell or trade to achieve this? Is it reasonable to believe that I could make this happen? Do you think it's a dumb idea? Would you suggest an RDIAS over a conversion gun?

I love my UZI, but I need something that can fire rifle caliber, and the AR is the only platform flexible enough for me to even consider parting with it. I also can't help but feel that if I don't do it now, I probably won't have the chance to do it later down the road. I've been talking about building another AR for about a year now, and this is probably the only way I'd be able to do it...and it'd be one hell of an AR :)

I can't see paying $10K+ for...

a freakin' flipper in a box or a milled & drilled AR-15 RR conversion.

My absolutely favorite weapon is a COLT M16 A1 carbine.
It's just stone cold reliable... & appreciating daily!
;)

Either way... you're looking at trading all three smgs. Somehow, I'd try to figure some way to keep the UZI.

Love my M16 but don't think I could part with my Uzi. You might think about an FN FNC. I got one thinking that someone might start making multi- cal. uppers for them. If not they are still a few $$$ less that a M 16 and a damn good .223 cal. gun. Maybe with the $$$ saved you could keep the Uzi. Then sometime later trade the FN towards a M 16.

If you just want the FA rifle caliber, get a RLL. Spend a little more to shoot a little more calibers and get a RDIAS. RR's are awesome, but, just for blasting in FA a RR isn't needed.
Hey, IMHO.

You are going to have to sell all three to get an RR. Sell the Macs and you'd probably be able to get an FNC whcih I think is a real good value right now. Don't care for the 9mm mag system on the M16 style guns, mag changes are too slow if you run any kind of subgun match. Frankly, you just can't beat an UZI.

I would recomend the RDIAS for its flexibility. Put the word out in your circle of friends and associates, you might be surprised at what can be found when you ask! There are a bunch of "forgotten in the safe guns" out there which can be aquired, you might approach some of these guys with a two for one offer that makes both parties happy. I have been lucky to find a few very good deals, and have a couple "in the works". You will need patience.

At this point, I think if I were to sacrifice my guns it'd be for an RDIAS. The prospect of having a bunch of hosts is what is appealing to me. What would you guys say the low to high range on an RDIAS is currently?

Saw a Sendra/Bushmaster conversion asking $9600 on the boards, here in the same state...Even though it's not an RDIAS, it's still kind of tempting.

Another tempting prospect is an HK Sear, which would set me back about the same amount. All sorts of really cool hosts, and that's delving into a whole 'nother realm of very sweet guns.

1.) Keep the UZI and MACS
2.) Sell/Trade for RDIAS
3.) Sell/Trade for HK Sear

What would you do?

If I could only own one MG, it would be an M16.

That said, I'm not sure life would be bearable without an M16 and an Uzi. They are just such a perfect pair. If you don't get a '16, or you sell the Uzi, you will regret it -- soon, and forever.

Find a way to keep the Uzi, sell the MACs and beg/borrow the balance for a '16.

I went through the attic to find stuff to sell on e-gay, sold off all my semis, even literally sold some of my blood to get mine. Zero regrets.

Trust me, no matter what the sacrifice, it'll be worth it.:)

Another idea: AC-556. The .22 lr conversion is cool and 30 rnd .22 mags are new & available again; 3 for $149 (as opposed to $150+ ea. & 10 years old). Ruger will repair/replace parts on its machinegun. Factory backing of an MG is all but unheard of. The AC has semi-full-3 rnd burst standard, and the 3-rnd is popular when letting a newbie burn though your ammo! This way you can keep your UZI + have a rifle cal. MG.

+ The Ruger MG comes in 2 bbl. lengths (18" & 13") and 2 stocks (fixed & folding) and 2 finishes (stainless steel & blued carbon). The FNC is more limited in configuration & calibers. While the Ruger is no where near as modular as an M16; it is fun to shoot. YMMV

Thank you guys for the advice, I'll keep things where they're at right now. I can't realistically see letting go of the UZI or MACS, but I really do miss having a .223 rifle, so I'm going to stick with my original plan and just build a semi AR.

I would like to keep my future options open, so I may decide to build on a receiver that would accept an RDIAS if I decided to jump later on. The receiver would need to have a low shelf, correct? Any of you guys have any suggestions or favorites? The LMT lowers look good on the outside (the ones marked for Lauer Custom Weaponry), but I don't know if they'd accept an RDIAS. How about Ameetec's or Mega's?

Gun Shot,

Why not build an AR PISTOL? You can use a short barrel on it and if you ever get a RDIAS...

Also, you can put a long barrel and stock on a pistol. Just don't put the stock on with a short barrel. I just ordered an AR pistol buffer kit from ACE check it out...MadDog

Well, my thoughts are slightly different than the above. I've got a couple of RR M16's and two LL.

I've got friends with DIAS', and quite frankly, I'm not impressed with them. I guess if you like to tinker instead of shooting, then I'd go for a DIAS.

I like to use my shooting time shooting, so I like RR's.

I also like the Lightning Link, because it's much cheaper to get a 223 MG. They work well, and are about the same price as an Uzi. Also MGI is coming out with a modular AR lower, that will let you shoot 223 or 7.62x39 and use the respective "normal" mags. Just change the barrel, the mag insert, and bolt/carrier, and you're shooting either caliber. Can't do that with my RR's.

I'd suggest, obviously the LL or RR.

That said my FNC is also alot of fun, as a final option.
