joeblacks buffer material

I recently bought some 1/2" thick 40 Durometer Polyurethane material from joeblack after reading his post Here . Interesting material, much softer than I had expected it to be. I cut-out a couple of buffers and drilled one lengthwise with four holes to make it hollow per his recommendation.
The solid one made a noticable difference in the ROF but I wasn't able to try the drilled piece due to my extractor breaking. I was using Wally Worlds value pack Winchester ammo. After the holidays are over I'll have the chance to try out the drilled buffer and see how that one effects ROF. I'm also going to try and find someone close by with a timer so I can do a before and after comparison as to how much of a reduction was achived.

I did 5 tests with a timer at the same post you just referred to.

amphibian, no I didn't scroll down far enough. I do believe your results are acurate though. My post was based solely on my perception of the ROF using the soft buffer material vs the factory buffer. The actual difference may have been less than I thought but there was a change, how much I can't say, but it was noticeable.

The buffer material will collapse after the third or fourth round and will not go back into shape until you stop shooting. Holes in the buffer will help significantly.

As I stated earlier in the other post, if you want to mag dump you'll need something to slow the bolt down. If you want to get singles/doubles you need an absorbing material.
