I bought this from a guy the other day. He asked 900 and being I have never seen a mini with this flash hider I thought what the heck and picked it up.

Anyone got any info on this?

Thanks, G

Nice looking older mini. A non-ranch one too.
The flash hider looks a like an 80’s special. Ruger made the GB model that came with a bayonet lug, threaded barrel and flashhider.

Thanks, I was wondering if I paid too much?

I have been looking for a ac556 recently and was wondering about parts compatibility between that and this one.

What did you mean by a non ranch model?

Ranch model had the 4 divets for factory ruger scope rings.

The GB model had no provision for scope rings.
and the aftermarket solutions suked big time.

A non ranch model was the original design (mini-14 vs mini-14 ranch). To me, they look RIGHT (the mini-14).
The Ranch model has provisions for scope mounts (rails) and therefore has a different crappy rear sight. Frankly, I think the ranch models look’s like dog sh*t. Furthermore, I think the new mini’s also look like dog sh*t. JMO.
As for parts compatibility, the vast majority of mini parts interchange with an ac556 (other than the auto parts). You’d need to check the years but anything from the last 70’s (series 181) through the early 200’s should be good to go. Also, the 180 series are slightly different and parts won’t interchange

That flash hider is an aftermarket model. I don't know who made them but every other booth at the gun shows were selling them. They basically slid on over the front sight and you replace the front sight pin with a longer roll pin the held everything together. The factory flash hiders were rather distinctive looking with internal flutes. As a matter of fact since they were threaded onto the barrel the best tool at least outside of the factory to crank them on and off with was a big torx bit. Forget what size but it fit right down in there and engage those internal flutes.

Appreciate it response. This was the education I needed. I didn’t own one and it looked in great shape and I figured if I get a ac556 I could scavenge for parts too.

I THINK THAT IS an old garth choate (Choate Machine & Tool) aftermarket flash hider from many years back.
