I got my 11/15 in and it’s sweet looking. I’ve just got a Holosun 503 on it now, but after feeling it and and handling it some, it really makes me think it’s more than a range toy. Seems quite a step up from his pistol cal uppers.

You all think it’s worthy of a better optic, light, sling and some BUIS?

That thread addresses zero percent of what I was asking.
Let me rephrase the question. I’ll type extra slowly just for you, duke... #nochildleftbehind

Would you all (others who have had their Max11/15 a while) consider Lage’s 5.56 kit reliable in the same regard as you would a quality AR15?

If so, I’ll probably add a light and some better sights/optics to it. Never hurts to have all your quality firearms equipped for use, if ever needed. Maybe try running a defensive carbine course with it or something. Could be enlightening.

Look, it is your firearm, dress it out however you would like. Open bolt medium caliber select fire firearms have not been in production since WW II. Why do you suppose that is? Try to shoot a tight group at 400 yards. As far as a light, that to me denotes inside room clearing sort of use.
To me the use of "serious use" in the title has a tactical conitatsion to it. The Max-11/15 on a M11/NINE is a longer firearm with the same length barrel asan AR witha better trigger. If open bolt was better than closed bolt then that is what would be in production. As far as I know open bolt Mac style RRs went out of production after the '86 ban. The only open bolt firearms currently in production are belt fed machineguns. As far as I am concerned any Mac style RR based firearm is a range toy period. YMMV.

considering the number of civilian encounters with a legal machine gun since 1986 can be counted on one hand and the chances of us going to war any time soon are pretty slim, I'd say that pretty much anything in your gun safe is a "range toy".

that being said, outfit it as you see fit and run it thru a class to see what it will do for ya. it very well could surprise you....

Pfft, he is right aluminum is a joke for serious duty. I don't have time to explain all of it over again but you can read the thread if you need an education, or perhaps go to someone with real knowledge like LawBob. We are busy protecting LIVES don't waste my time with this crap.

Do you have any idea how stressful it is in a real operator scenario? You want cold steel in your hands to face down the perps in our arena.

With respect, you are overlooking the Ultimax 100 Mk5 & Mk8 series of LMG. They added a semi/full auto selector in 2008 w/ the MK5. You probably won't find one in the US, however.

*Open bolt configuration is also availble with the Styer AUG, Colt M-16, and of course the M-249.

The Lage offering is absolutely reliable, and I feel the quality, engineering, and thought put into this is equal to his other superb offerings. First rate! Personally, I don’t find a need to add all manner of high drag, low speed gadgets to the majority of my guns. I have Magpul BUIS on two of my uppers, but those are the primary sights for blaster uppers. They aren’t back ups. Maybe I’m the only guy who fails to see the need for back up sights on a gun that will never see use beyond burning up ammo. Battery failure? Please! Can you not keep a spare in your range bag?

I currently own three Holosun optics including a pair of 503s and a 510. I like them a lot and find they’re comparable to the four EOTechs I own. To be clear, I’m a circle dot, doughnut of death fan. So far I feel the Holosuns are long on value for short money. If you feel the need to spend two, or three times on an optic, have at it. I’ve seldom been disappointed with spending more on high quality products.

Slings have a purpose beyond simply carrying a rifle. Will you actually use it or is it something that’s in the way? You have to make that decision based on how and when you’ll use it.

A light? Why? There’s a great three gun match in town that shoots in the evenings during the summer heat. Lights are a definite requirement, but beyond that? Will you be hunting hogs at night? What is the intended use for a light on the 11-15? How often will you be using the light?

While I don’t own a MAX-15, I do have a RR M-16. I’ve found no reason to go full on ATAS by adding BUIS, slings, lasers, lights, bipods, off set sights, cup holders, laser designators, etc. to most of my uppers. Just because it’s got rails doesn’t mean you need to cover them with useless stuff like back up lights.

^∆^THIS^∆^ is why I bought my Max10 and my Coastal Suppressor. If that's not "serious," I dunno what is...

Vegas SMG, I gotta agree on the optics. I have an Eotech that sits in my safe most of the time. I mostly use a Primary Arms 3x prism scope on my Lage Max10/45, because I like the slight magnification and the reticle BETTER than the high-ticket Eotech.

I do prefer the Eotech to my other 1x scopes, such as the Primary Micro Dot. The Primary is great, but I get a little "comet tail" at certain times, which is distracting.

Don't forget the beloved M231 FPW when discussing Open Bolt FA rifle cartridge firing weapons.
