I have Lage's 750rpm bolt installed in my Max11 Mk1 upper on my M11/9, and I'd like to find and replace it with the 900rpm bolt. I couldn't find either on Lage's website, and I forget what each one was called. I think the 750rpm bolt was referred to as the tactical bolt, and the 900rpm bolt the speed bolt? Does Lage still produce the 900rpm bolt?

I think you could unstake the bolts (screws?), remove the weight and cut off the appropriate amount if you wanted the speed bolt. It's just lighter. But if I were going through the trouble I'd have a second weight made for my bolt so I had both. You could also go this route to use a piece of tungsten bar to lower the center of gravity of the bolt.

Thanks all. I haven't looked at the bolt closely in years, but yes I do recall there being screws attaching the weight to the bolt itself. If Lage doesn't still produce the bolts perhaps they have the 900rpm weights left over. I'll email them.

Unfortunately Lage no longer carries the mk1 bolts. So I guess I’ll start looking for a used 900rpm bolt.

I know that I can stack buffers to increase the ROF of the 750rpm bolt, but I’ve avoided that because as-is the bolt doesn’t appear to touch the buffer and I don’t want increased force and wear on the rear welds. Is this a legitimate concern?

As noted, the only difference is in the weight that’s attached to the top of the bolt. Going from memory here, but did the speed bolt use an aluminum weight? More of a filler so the bolt fits in the channel correctly.

Worst case, you could remove the weight from your bolt and get a local machine shop to make copy of it in aluminum.

Or as noted, you can start chopping sections out of it to reduce the weight. That’s what I did on my slow-fire bolt to make my own Tac-bolt.
