I have a question for all the 22 kit gurus. I have blown out two extractors recently and also encountered some OOB's, most of my spent cases look like this:

The barrel liner section looks like this after cleaning.

Those dark spots are actually holes that a pick can go into. Are those holes supposed to be there? I have cleaned the chamber with a .270 brush to remove any lead build up and will try again next range trip. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wow ugly brass there.. I don't know that holes would cause that- take some 22 snap caps and manually cycle them through to see if they fully seat in the chamber properly. Is the rifling at the head of the chamber clear & clean? Does this happen with more than one type of ammo?

The cases are short chambering creating OOBDs. There is something keeping the cartridges from fully seating. The taper at the end of the case is a giveaway. Are you cleaning it well after every 500 rounds?

Now that you have cleaned the chamber it should be good to go.

I'll see next range trip...I have been a lazy bastard and just used a bore snake for cleaning after each outing(usually between 300-800rds each time primarily suppressed). Guess I'll have to be more fastidious in cleaning the chamber...Thanks

Get a long 22 or 270 brass brush and bend it at a 90 degree angle near the threaded end and use it to clean the chamber. Guessing you have lead buildup at the end of the chamber nearest the barrel that is not allowing the 22 to fully seat into the chamber. Saw the same problem with a suppressed Ruger pistol. Brush cleared it up.

Brushing the chamber didn't clear anything up. I still get this after a few rounds.

The front of my bolt seems to be peening on something. Left side in this picture, right side is charging handle and Mr. Lage said that shouldn't affect function.

Funny thing is that I caught the extractor plunger and spring in my brass catcher but the claw was inside the upper after the OOBD. My local gunsmith has looked at the chamber to verify that the lead build up is gone so I'm looking for any other ideas. Maybe it's time to give the good Lage folks a call...

Can you insert a round into the chamber manually (after removing the bolt from the upper )?

Is this ammo Remington Golden Bullets?
Is this a side cocking upper? Who made it?

At this point I'd suggest asking Richard if you could send the entire upper and see if perhaps he could troubleshoot it.

Remington Goldens, USMG upper that was converted by them like others on here have had done "Strobro Mod".
Yes rounds can be inserted manually and drop free when the barrel is tilted up.

Maybe an alignment issue?

Try some new production Remington Golden Bullet. Some of the batches a couple of years ago would do that.

These are this years production.
I did notice some build up that I cannot remove even with a dental pick in the firing pin channel and some wear on the right side where the extractor goes. Maybe this is causing alignment issues or preventing the bolt from traveling fully forward into battery? I'm going to try a different brand of ammo and see if anything changes.

The extractor groove area in your pix looks fine. When the barrel is installed, there are exposed threads in the extractor groove area. This area is ground with a small ball grinding bit. This allows the extractor to get closer to the rim.

Could this be or has become an alignment issue between the Ejector plate and barrel liner? If it's out of alignment wouldn't it drive the bullet/casing in an angle thus causing that casing deformity as in the OP's first pic?

So.... If RGB is truly the only real "Successful" 22lr ammo that will work in this platform and now some batches of RGB doesn't work? Then what do we look for? Thank you in advance.

Nope, it is something unique to RGB. I have not seen it with any other .22LR ammo.

Well I ran 10 rounds of Federal Automatch and 15 rounds of Rem Thunderbolts with no issues. I'll have to try some different GB's to see if those work. I sure hope they do since I recently picked up 4 buckets of them...

I checked the RGB we have at the shop. There are no lot or date code numbers that I can find in the boxes.

Thanks Richard. I'll see how the buckets work. I started having this problem halfway through a 100 round box so maybe that was just a bad box...
