I just got another mac...got a good one though because it has steel internals and the old style bolt that is machined with the ball detent cocking knob release(1986 manu date)..no trigger slap and works fine cept I noticed the thread protector coming loose after a few rounds.

A friend that shoots FA says I need that flat, very thin washer type spring on before the accessories or they will shoot loose. he has 1 on his FA mac but couldnt find an extra for the semiauto mac I have. I dont want anything to get loose and cause an accident by flying off the barrel or something, do I need that spring washer?

also, wanting to swap the factory zytel for some steel mags for my SWD m11/9mm...zytel works but dont want to have to replace the feedlips someday and have a single shot to contend with in the meantime.

Instead of using a thread protector...

while you shoot...
try a barrel extension or dummy/real sound suppressor with NOMEX.

You NEED to hang on for the ride!

With a semi-auto, things unscrewing is not going to be a real concern, as there is considerable lag time between shots for you to verify all is well.... it is more important with full auto and rounds running like a garden hose, and a real sound suppressor on the end of the barrel that has to stay tight/straight so as to not baffle strike.

Go to the hardware store and buy a roll of teflon thread tape, use it on the barrel threads.

If you want (3) steel mags, I have them, came with my M11-9, $10 each + shipping, unless you close by to meet to get them.

I be 2 "bicycle" mile from Ohio Rapid Fire.

thanks...Id like to add a fake can but for now, I am financially embarrassed. some good ideas here, am glad I joined.

on a side note, why are the internals on my 85 and 86 prefix semiauto m11s made better than the leinads and such?the bolts are different than the leinad Ive had, I can rotate the cocking knob 90 degrees and it locks the bolt, its machined in there with a ball detent knob release and there isnt any trigger slap that the leinad had. What year did SWD stop assembling their own macs?Anyone know some SWD history? thanks again.

;)

thanks UZI SBR AWC, I might get those mags when I get some money, im just not thrilled with using plastic and relying on it in the long term in an otherwise steel gun.

As long as your upper receiver...

has NO play vertically with the lower... the ZYTELs will last quite awhile.

If you DO have play... it's easy to shim the upper with JB Weld.

I still use the same one mag in my SWD M11/9smg since '97!!!!
(have 32 of the suckers... lol)

there isnt any play, the gun is very tight.in fact I had a hard time seperating the 2 halves to clean it after removing the 2 piece pin. Im going to try those steel mags that I was offered to buy when I get some money, I was considering the sten mag conversion but after hearing sten mags are kinda soft in the feedlip area, Im passing and keeping it as is.

Im considering another option as well....I read that somewhere one can drill out the grip and install a adaptor to use madsen smg mags. I read that originally cobray made the zytel mags to be disposable and they sold them for cheap as in 5 bucks each new. the disposable idea is why I want to go with steel though I might still use a zytel and have it fitted with steel feedlips, just in case.

theres so many mag copies out there, I wonder why nobody has taken the idea of making new mags for m11s now that the AW ban is gone.I think its the only weakness in these fun little guns.
