Have a PS M10 45 bought back in the early 90s. Been a great gun and have put MANY miles on it along with an old school SWD can. Fast forward to today...

Bought a new Gemtech Viper I found on-line in transfer which uses a locking collar and decided I don't want to install the collar on my original PS upper. So... I have a NOS Cobray marked upper assembly (including bolt) and barrel for it in my bag of tricks (damn that box was dusty) but lack info on how the barrels are properly installed on a M10. The barrel in the Cobray upper is already screwed in but not sure if done properly and it's not currently pinned. Also have 2 flat pieces of sheet metal I bought many years ago that cinch together on the barrel threads to screw one down, or take one off.

So my questions are...

Can anyone provide input or point me in a direction on how to properly install a barrel? Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. Anything to watch out for?

Do they have to be pinned? I only ask about pinning because my PS upper is.

Are there any directions (preferably factory) out in the wild on how to install a barrel for the DIYer? I do have access to a competent gun smith that can pin the barrel on after I install it but other than measuring the barrel pin hole location in the PS upper for the info don't have any dimensions to tell him where to machine a hole so he or I can put the roll pin in.

I know I can just send it to Practical Solutions but if it's as straight forward as it seems figured I would just put it in myself then drive across town to get the pinning done. Maybe I'm missing something (maybe a lot) but am considering tackling the job.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. Any and all thoughts or input would be appreciated.

here is our video from 10 years ago. we have been making them for more than a decade.

if you don't put the lower section of the trunnion in a vise it is nearly impossible to remove the barrel. tap the pin out, spray a lot of brake free or some other oil in the pin hole and around the threads let it sit overnight. thread on one wrench then the other and bind them together with a hammer. Hopefully the barrel will break free for removal.
