Richard, what's the over all length as posted in that picture? Or, mind posting a pic of it next to an AR of similar barrel length?

A side by side with an AR for reference would be good, but with my own MAC in hand it's easy estimate to size. Thanks Richard for the updates!

I'm very much looking forward to this upper. I hope there will be a lower rail or other provision for mounting a bipod.

I thought you'd be able to swap hand guards and barrels, with standard AR parts, right?

Yes you can. The picture shows an upper with an mlok rail, which can accept mlok accessories such as bipods. It is using a standard unmodified AR barrel and handguard that can be changed out if you want to change calibers. Richard also indicated that he is trying to keep it compatible with several piston ar conversions if you choose to do that.

Yeah, I'd buy an AR upper to put on a mac (pistol lower) just to convert it back to a pistol cartridge.

Pfft.

But I guess would leave all the options on the table moving forward.

Mlok, keymod, what's wrong with attaching pic rail sections with screws?????

Should be a standard AR-15 upper barrel nut thread, so you can literally use any combination of AR-15 barrel and handguard you like.

Swapping bolts should also be a breeze so caliber conversions are wide open. Just about any round that will fit in the AR-15 mag well has off the shelf options. Good times ahead ;)

I'm not sure I'm completely happy with Mlok but the market has pretty much decided. Not requiring an adapter, like a bolt on rail, to attach accessories is more convenient and lighter. There are rail sections that use MLOK or KeyMod if that is your thing, best of both worlds.

Well, call me old school, but fuck that. I'll stick with quad, or screw in. Meh.

Damn kids and their newfangled farkles.

I have tried several different handguards over the years.

I'm not really a fan of the mlock or keymod that requires screws/bolts.

I've already stripped out several because if you don't torque the piss of out them they tend to work loose after a while.

They're expensive to replace too when you do strip them out or try to remove them so you can move your stuff around.

That's why I prefer dedicated rails, or at least the old style that bolt on that way, even though they are harder to deal with sometimes.

Ok, at the risk of hijacking this already long thread, I'll stick up for mlok. By the way, I have no idea what type of rail Richard is going to offer the M11/15 in, but his latest picture shows an mlok.

Full picatinny rails are going the way of the dinosaur due to multiple factors, weigh being one of them. The full rail is heavier and makes for an uncomfortable handhold is you actually use it for a hand guard. So companies have been trying to find a system that would cut down on weight, be more comfortable to use while still allowing for attachment of accessories. The outcome was what is called negative space rails. The idea is the rail is the result of a gap in the fore end that can be used for mounting. This concept addresses both weight and usability as a hand guard.

The two major types of negative space rails are the keymon system and the mlok system. The military recently tested both systems and the mlok system came out on top.

For details about the testing, here's a link.
http://soldiersystems.net/2017/05/05/details-on-the-ussocom-sponsored-keymod-vs-m-lok-test-conducted-at-nswc-crane/

With all that being said, I mostly own full picatinney rails, but have one mlok rail to test. So far I like it and have plans on converting over to it. The truth is that there is nothing wrong with full pic rails if that works for you. The industry is just continuing to evolve to offer better products to the consumers.

I for one would like to see the M11/15 offered with an mlok rail. I guess that makes me not old fashioned. To each their own.

What AR adapter is that in the prototype pictures?

I believe Richard is developing a new stock adapter for the M11/15 that will be included with the upper. I think the upper assembly and stock assembly will both be included.

I'm sure this has been answereed before but is the spot on the lower where the M11/15 hole needs to be drilled in the same spot as the Task hole?
