My M11 has started shooting semi once in a while when set to auto. And, lately, it seems more frequent. Putting lube in wrong area? Needs better cleaning? I am assuming I need to replace some parts, please advise. Thanks!

I agree, unless you want semi auto, take the trip out. At least then you can rule it out.

While I didn't throw it away, I'd be hard pressed to locate my trip. Of course with the MAX-11 upper, singles are easy to pull and I don't need the semi setting.

Yank the trip!

Thanks again, guys. I figured I would replace all of the lower parts rather than trying one at a time since I will probably need some spare parts anyway. I told Richard Lage I wanted all of the lower fire control parts but no extended safety since I don't use the safety. He gave me the following list, and I think he also gave me his acquisition costs by accident but I won't post that LOL.

Will I need all of these parts eventually? Is it likely I will need to replace the pins and the trigger, for instance?

Thanks!

I wouldn't replace every part in the gun searching for the problem that many owners have experienced. You're chasing a ghost, and in the end, you'll never know what the underlying problem was and needlessly spent a lot of money in the process. Please do yourself a favor and try removing the trip to see if that cures your problem. It costs nothing, takes just a couple of minutes, and no tools are required. Trip removal cures most people's burst firing such as what you're experiencing.

On your parts list, a hardened sear wouldn't be a bad idea and the selector/sear pins sometimes break. I highly recommend the Lage extended safety because you actually use it. I have to wonder why you're asking about the safety components if you have no intention of using this feature anyway. :thinking

As Vegas and others have said, try removing the trip to see if the gun runs in full auto. If so and you'd like to fix the issue, you're probably going to need to fit the trip to the gun. I think the cause of your problem (and many other trip problems) is that the trip is too tall and is being hit by the bolt even when the selector is in SMG. When the trip is activated, it pushes up on the disconnector and allows the sear to catch the bolt. After disaasembling your gun, look at the top of the trip. See the angled surface that is contacted by the bolt? That's where you're going to need to remove material. It doesn't take much, esp. if your problem is only intermitent. If you take off too much, the trip will be too low in SEMI and you'll lose semi-auto function. Fortunately, a trip only costs $18. So, if you blow it the first time, it's cheap to start over and try again. :D

Oh, BTW, I second Vegas' recommendation on the hardened sear. Buy one from Richard. His are case-hardened and work great. Don't bother fitting your trip until you replace the sear. I'd buy a second one with the sear just in case you end up needed it.

OK guys, you finally got through my thick skull. Thanks :)

As stated, I want to buy more replacement parts than are needed fix this problem. And I didn't want to spend time screwing around with it. But you are right, of course, if I fix my trip then I end up with a new trip and sear as replacement parts instead of new parts in the gun and questionable replacements in a plastic bag. I won't spend much time at it but it's worth a shot.

I shoot at my property but only semi. Also, I like to shoot a few shots in semi at the range. But not when I don't expect them :D
