The more I think about this design the more I don't think it's a good idea. It would be dangerous to shoot the SRU M11 without a suppressor. If a suppressor is used the aluminum shell will get crazy hot and chances of burning yourself on the suppressor while charging the upper are too great.

I still like the shell idea but Greg's idea of placing the gun in the front is better.

The issue was the fulcrum I designed to keep the trigger pull manageable. Other than that, the rest wasn’t to complicated.

I wondered that too when I first saw the pics. Then I notice that the front hand stop could be replaced with a FVG.

2” from the other hand. Not much of forward.

IMO, suppressed use only, otherwise you lose the OAL benefit of the bullpup layout. Getting the sight plane up high enough is also a problem with a gun this short.

None of my layouts have an accommodation for the off hand. I would use a two-hand pistol-style grip just like I do the OEM M11/9. I don't have a problem with that but, clearly, I'm weird. :silly

Did anyone else pick up one of these kits to mess with? I only gave mine a quick look so far but it looks like it wouldn't be too hard to make work with a real gun. I have my RPB all tore apart, I need to find the upper and put the lower back together to test charging and trigger pull. The main issue I see is heat, obviously 3d printed parts will melt. The main body of the kit is basically an extruded octagon, which shouldn't be too difficult to recreate in a heat resistant and non-conductive material like carbon fiber. I think that if you do that, you can just attach the (now modified) 3d printed grip and rear section and it should survive just fine. I would modify the front to cover the suppressor and leave room for an additional heat shield between shell and suppressor.

I feel like it would be cooler/more practical to make a max11-15 bullpup

The problem is that the magwell would be further forward than you commonly see in bullpups, RIGHT behind the grip. Worse so with an M11/9 when compared to the other models. There are potential ways around that but it would take a different approach.

Sounds like you have a plan. I'm looking forward to seeing what you turn out.

Whoa somebody took the plunge, cheers to you Bigj! My thought would be a long barrel, or a 6" barrel extension would be a much faster way to get to the testing phase than trying to mitigate the heat of a suppressor. Matter of fact i may have a barrel extension around somewhere that's 1/2x28. Not sure it's long enough to clear that plastic shell but it's at least 4"

Can you post some pics/video of what it's looking like?

It doesn't look like much. It's looking like an airsoft bullpup kit with a completely disassembled lower in it.cThe chassis needs some very minor mods for the lower to fit properly and for a standard paddle mag release to fit. I can already tell it's going to be SUPER rear heavy, especially with a CFW bolt (don't have yet) and fully loaded mag. Definitely needs as much stuff up front as possible. I will be using a fake suppressor, need to grab one but only have a stock barrel and 3 lug barrel. Don't want to spend an arm and a leg for one.

I think it's amazing in itself that a real gun fits where an airsoft one goes. Them airsoft guns must be quite realistic. Can't wait to see some pics!

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this! let us know how it goes ;) The airsoft MAC that's initially made for the shell is not too far off dimension-wise from the real one, so I don't expect you'd have to change too much from the inside.

Also, good point on the heat shield, the plastic most likely isn't too heat resistant. An aluminum shield would be my preference, but a carbon fiber one will be good too.

well, the good news is that no lefties can shoot it because their nose would be the shell deflector....
more product for us righties!

I have this exact issue when shooting Thompsons. The casings constantly ping off the tip of my nose. Never been bloodied or anything, but after a half hour at the range the tip is all bruised lol

Ok Bigj! Any progress?

I really dropped the ball on this one. I got this thing and then that made me want a 3d printer and then I got sidetracked by the magwell project I was doing. I've honestly lost motivation for everything. It would not take much at all to get this thing shooting, I just needed to pick up a barrel shroud and do some minor fitting. I'll order the barrel shroud and maybe do some work on this. I'll update with a picture if I get it fitted and maybe a video when I shoot it.
