So has anyone with a 3D printer ever thought of making a grip plug for the M11 (for when in use with any Lage upper that uses it's own magwell)?

It could insert just like a mag, and even have a capped storage area for small parts or a form 4. It would protect from dirt or debris entering up thru the grip magwell.

I emailed Lage...cause I would totally buy one...but nothing yet :)

Cut off the top of a junk magazine, and use the body to hold your stuff

Don’t they have a seam that you could cut to make it a flush fit mag?

Yep. I believe you can just re use the same baseplate also. Maybe just cut down the spring if you wanted it functional to full capacity. One of my zytels is flush fit just like that but I never really cared enough to take it apart.

That's weird I was thinking the same last week. We went to cabin for a shooting weekend and my sight battery died.
I should use old mag for storage.

I have a 3D printer. I can get my son to design one when he comes home from college in December.

Yes!

I know I can cut down a mag, and then I was going to use some moldable rubber to do the bottom so it's flush fit/matches the contours of the bottom part of the Lage grip. Then do a rubber press fit cap of some sort, but I know someone with some 3D printer skills could do something that looks nice, and can hopefully design the top so a rubber plug of some sort could make a nice tight seal.

Maybe one of those grease gun rubber caps would work to seal the top?

If you're going to do a 3D print, you might just as well design for a two part design with a swing down trap door as the second part instead of a rubber plug; similar to what many AR-15 and other firearms grips have. Rubber plugs are poor for a grip closure. To name a few issues that I have had with rubber grip plugs: they come loose due to vibrations when you're shooting and let the stuff inside drop out, get lost, probably have to be specially molded or printed from an expensive resilient print material. It's also been my experience that durable, engineering grade print material for a "magazine" section is pretty expensive as well.

ETA: print the "magazine" section with a closed top.

Best of luck.
MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.

My son owes me. He talked me in to getting it and then decided to go to college early. Other than a few toys he printed, I have nothing to show for my investment.

Yes! This is a wonderful idea, and prob easier for a 3d printer to do clamshell design then making a long tube with deep hole. Thank you for this advice, brilliant!

So here ya go, I have been working on some mags for my 22lr project so creating this from the model I already had was easy. Lid slides in / out, sticks out about 1 inch below the grip. I also made one for the small grip baby m11.

The models were put here for easier downloading.
Large grip and Small grip

Thank you for the compliment, but more an observation of what appears to be the most common configuration for pistol grip storage compartment designs.
Best of luck to all.
