I have seen these listed but don't think many are selling. A Colt M16 has been sitting for a few weeks at $22k. With M16's seeming flat, I considered selling out of M11 and stepping up to an M16. Can't convince myself to spend that much.

I would. Best time to buy an M16 since 2008/2009 when there was a slump in all MG's. M16's are soft right now due in part to the M16 collector dumping so many guns on to the market all at once. Once that supply dries up you can be sure the prices will correct. The M16 gives you so many more options then the M11. 22lr drum feed to 5.56 belt fed and everything in between. Mac has more options then ten years ago, but is still a far cry from the M16.

I have a waiting list for Colt M16's but only a couple inbound. As for conversions, I am working on the purchase of a pair and will know shortly if I have them or not. In another thread, I stated there are LOTS of transferables bought and sold that never hit the net. Note the posts above where great deals were had that were not advertised on the net. It happens every day!

Chuck: where is this Colt that has been sitting for weeks at 22K?

My m16 story, I've owned a factory colt m16a1 since 2008, but they have gotten so valuable I seldom shot it, been looking for several years for a cheaper conversion to use as a blaster. 3 months ago found one local to me for 9,000 and that seller had a friend with one for sale also, just last week got the papers off on the second one that is a SP 1 colt, I gave 12,500 for it , so bargains do exist out there. The first one I have a question about. The only markings on the receiver are for the local class III guy (back in the 80s) who converted and assembled the gun, there are not any factory markings on the receiver at all that I can find, the gun was painted with black epoxy paint I am having it duracoated matt black. How could he get a receiver without any factory markings, he added his name and company name and model number and serial number and it is legal on a form 4, but apparently he got a blank receiver and finished it, the gun has a factory colt A1 upper on it, runs great and my other colt and other brand uppers fit on it just fine. The SP1 was converted by the same local guy and has a A2 heavy upper on it, shoots fine also. So I have papers in on 2 conversions and when I get them back I will probably sell one of the guns, I want 2 m16s but can't justify having that much money tied up if I keep all three. If I decide to sell I will post on here first, right now leaning towards selling the factory m16A1 if I can get 24,000 for it, but haven't decided for sure yet. Bargains do still show up occasionally.

Is it Barr Armsmaker?

Two went at auction today. $17,300 per gun. Rock Island conversions. Story on one of them was it was used in a shootout with a bad guy. The bad guy lost. These were in a very small county in AR. I don't know if the history will bring more money but the buyer will certainly market it as "unique" and try and sell the story to bring a decent return!

It seems that many lump anything other than a Colt marked m16/m16a1/m16a2 conversions. Some even consider the Colt 614 a conversion!

So my real question is what is the market for factory M16 style machine guns by other than Colt?

BFI/Sendra is a factory gun correct? What are these running?

The two purchased for $17,300 each yesterday were purchased by ruben according to the auctioneer. These were rock island. I don't think any conversions are selling for 20K but who knows in this crazy market. The Colt 614 is a factory gun as are all the other Colt AR15 guns prior to the M16 roll markings and none are considered conversions. They all left the factory as machine guns.

My understanding is BFI converted Sendra semi-auto receivers. So even though Bushmaster is a factory, it's still a conversion gun.

John, What are the group industries SS guns going for? Are those considered a conversion or a factory gun since they were only made by GI as M16 lowers?

Saw a request for a price over at subguns that suggested 23-25k! I have a buddy getting up in years considering selling his. Runs great in 5.56, .300blk & .22.

I saw that subguns thread and I thought those estimates were waaay under what a sorted lower would bring. If you put up a WTS for a Group Ind SS lower for $25k in this market......it would last less than 5 minutes -or- most would think your ad was a scam.

When it comes to M16s, I'm not a receiver guy.....even a Group SS receiver. I'm a RDIAS guy. The last time I saw a couple Group Ind SS lowers sell, they were a couple thousand above what good steel RDIAS' were selling for. Good steel RDIAS' are currently breaking the $30k mark.......so if Vito's lower has been sorted, it's just inside the price envelope of what someone will probably pay IMO.

It is not listed but I have a DIAS inbound.

Just wondering, is there a noticeable wall thickness difference on the selector side of this lower? I think I may have owned this lower at one point. It is an EA A1 forged receiver. There were not many Barr Armsmaker RR's (M16) manufactured.

No noticeable difference, the receiver seems in spec, I was a little hesitant to buy it at first but damn it was cheap , cheap by today's standard any way. This probably was not yours, I bough it from the original owner who bought it from Barr in the mid 1980s......I think that it is going to make a good fairly cheap blaster m16. Even if it needed a tune up to be in spec, the low price made it to me worth it. The sp1, I have no worries about, also bought it from original owner from late 1980s. Apparently Barr registered some receivers pre may 86 and kept them because he continued to sell nfa guns into the 1990s.
