FYI ....Bowman has them on sale this week, also barrel for these kits are now $ 295....where was that guy who said he was gonna start making them....now is the time my dude....:silly

Lol yes I just saw this myself. I know a couple of machinists...I think I'll take them the torched barrel and see if they can make copies :) $295 for a 9" long barrel is EXPENSIVE!

well, when you're the only game in town ??....LOL and I agree, thats a $ 150 barrel at best, honestly I kick myself for not buying those kits when they were $795 in a 4 pack last year. But I didn't want 4 of them, Couldn't find anyone else who wanted one. I figured with the complex cut up shroud and then a semi conversion who would be gobbling these up ??, now the price is up even higher and every Vendor seems to have them in that $350 range. Not sure who is buying these and why the price keeps going up?

I watched the video where he had a ton of these 49/57's coming in, and figured the price would eventually drop, then saw the barrel price and said hell with that, same with the Star Z70, but that looks like a complex barrel.

Bowman just ran these on sale again and I bit the bullet and grabbed one, so now I am in need of a barrel, I do have a 9mm blank laying around the shop somewhere, so Zacharoni, if you have a lead on someone who can turn me one based on the cut stubs, I'd like to speak with you...I'm an 07/02 and wanna get this rolling into a post sample

Dang! I dont know why I don't get updates from this thread. I also received a Bowman barrel BUT if you pay attention to the barrel lugs, his aren't right. The lugs on the new barrel are maybe half the right depth/thickness and the barrel has a TON of axial play. I personally seem it unsafe to fire with that kind of clearance. Thankfully I'm lucky to have access to a machine shop and use what knowledge I have to make these lugs right. Good news is I just started renting a shop and 2 doors down from me is a small machine shop! On my next day off I plan to go makes friends with them :)

Also, may I add, removing the barrel stub out of the compensator/end of the barrel shroud, it's threaded! I had absolutely zero luck unthreading it and ended up slowly drilling it out. I have to still figure out what thread it is so I can re-tap the end of the shroud.

Measurements of the lugs on an original M49/57 barrel:

OD of lugs: 1.019" (25.9mm)
Thickness of lugs: 0.196" (5mm)
Length of lugs: .581" (14.75mm)
Breech face of barrel to rear face of lugs: 0.493" (12.5mm)

All measurements are taken with a vernier caliper so the third decimal place is ±.001"

EDIT:
Couldn't find my notes to confirm this but IIRC the thread on the muzzle end of the barrel is M14x1.25 ( 0.55 OD x approx. 20.3 TPI)

The Build Instructions for the M49/57 from Indianapolis Ordnance paragraph 5 says "remove the front portion by unscrewing it clockwise. It is a left handed thread"

Update - Looking at the barrel now... The very tip of the muzzle is right hand thread. The larger thread further down is left hand for sure.

This is an extended barrel?
The thread at the muzzle is probably 1/2"-28NF for a muzzle device/suppressor
The LH thread partway down the barrel is what screws into the front support

I have had no luck as well removing that barrel portion from the compensator and dont wanna mess it up, I guess Im gonna have to drill mine its been soaking in Kroil for weeks and tried heat several times

Zackeroni...if you have a way to copy this barrel I would be more than willing to pay you for your time, I do have a 9mm barrel blank handy, just LMK
