Looking for ideas on how to resolve below issue:

I installed a molded grip with thumb magazine release from lage manufacturing and I'm having issues with it holding the magazines. If I mess with the release some it will hold a magazine but allot of the time the magazines are just dropping out of it.

It says it will work with factory and unmodified grease gun magazines. The factory seems to hold allot better but still has issues staying in the mag well while firing.

If anyone can give me some advice on why this might be happening I would greatly appreciate it.

Make sure your Lage mag catch has the 2 steps on it. If there is only 1 step, it will only work with modified mags and won't hold un-modified mags properly. You may have gotten an incorrect part.

Any chance you could describe or show me what the one with two steps looks like ? Appreciate your help .

We assume you are using this for .45ACP.

The 2-stage may not work well with the m10/9

Also look on the back of the modified mags where the shelf that engages the mag catch has been cut. Make sure that cut is at a 90 degree angle to the back of the magazine.
When I first got into Mac's (way before the internet was born) I bought two dozen pre-cut M10/45 grease gun mags that the shelf was cut at an angle...like a ramp. They would drop out of the mag well when firing.

Try loosening the screw a little bit. With mine if I tightened it right down full force, it would make the thumb release bar bind up. If that works, just use some loctite on th threads and only tighten it to where it's needed. (Did you buy new? I believe everything I just said was in my instructions)

Are you using the factory spring or the spring that came with it? I had a similar issue and called and found that the factory spring was not always strong enough and was sent one that worked perfectly.

For best results 'tune' your GG mags to your M10 with a three-sided file. Takes just a couple minutes per mag and they'll be SNUG and LOCK into place with the factory mag release. That combo one was never 100% right for my Macs.

Notice the lower ramp is sloped slightly downward. I took a 3 sided file as noted above and slowly honed it until it was flat like the upper ramp or even tapered slightly upward and it seemed to engage both types of GG mags a bit tighter and not have them slide off the lower ramp. Plus I honed it to a very sharp edge as LawBob mentioned below.

If you rotate that in accordance with the pivot point, it will be just as flat, relative to the angle.

However, a sharper ledge works best.

I couldn’t get it wp work either but didn’t try to file it. Good ideas.
