Hey everyone, new guy here…

Recently picked up a Cobray M11. Disassembled it, threw it back together and now the bolt will only move a couple of inches and it seems like it’s getting caught up on something.

Obviously I installed something wrong in the lower, but I have no clue what it is! Does anyone have a clue on where I went wrong?

I can take pictures later on if that would help. I really appreciate any insight you guys could give…

Yep. Bookmark that site until you are familiar with the workings of the trigger group. Usually one of the springs in the wrong position.

Thanks for the replies! I’ll take a look again tomorrow when I’m not so frustrated and overtired. I can tell I’m not thinking clearly haha.

Semi M/11-9 are a real PITA to cock even put together right.
You have to overcome all the semi crap in them with a tiny little puck that will eat up your hand due to force needed to reset everything from empty and hammer down fired position.
You can use a boot lace and wrap it around the the charging puck to pull it back.
BUT 1st make sure it is assembled correctly.

What make/model is it?

It’s a Cobray m-11 semi auto.

It was cocking smoothly and working just fine before I took it apart and reassembled it. Must be something I put back in wrong, I just can’t figure it out for the life of me…

Ok I don't know much about the semi guns since I haven't shot one on 25+ years.
I do have a NIB SWD semi I bought from a friend as a short term loan.
I probably haven't looked at it in 8 years.
I'm stuck with it now though as he passed away.
I own a transferable M10 so not much interest in that semi I have accept sentimental value.
If the M11 site doesn't get you fixed up I can dig it out of the safe and get pix possibly.

Hammer is most likely down instead of the cocked back position.
This is most likely what’s happening. It’s blocking the bolt from traveling rearward.

Remove the upper from the gun. Cock the hammer manually back until it locks onto the hammer bar. Replace the upper. Pull the trigger, hammer will drop against the rear of the bolt and gun will work properly again.

That was it! I feel like such an idiot. I appreciate the help.
This is a very common mistake people make when reassembling these guns. I have seen “broken” M11/9s and Texas M10 semi autos listed on GB as “gunsmith specials” that weren’t broken at all and clearly just did not have the gun reassembled correctly with the hammer in the cocked position.
Make sure the safety is off
This doesn’t matter on the closed bolt semi autos. This is an open bolt thing only. Closed bolt semi autos will still cock with the safety engaged.

Glad ya figured it out.
I was dreading digging that thing out of the back and bottom of the safe.
The semi guns bumpfire very very well.
Pretty sure they are trying to let their true M/11-9 inner subgun out.

Happy shooting and be safe.

First time I ever shot a Cobray firearm was a semi auto closed bolt CM11/9 carbine with the stock removed.. it bump fired without even trying to bump fire it.. I think the hammer was slipping off the hammer bar because of the recoil of the previous round causing hammer follow/fully automatic fire…

It was a piece of crap with a razor sharp charging handle slot that cut my hands all up when I was cocking it. It would fire a burst of about 3-5 rounds and needed to be cocked again.. needless to say I absolutely loved it and now here we are :ROFLMAO:

Glad others got you back up and working. But wanted to let thosewith the semi baby Mac’s, that cocking the hammer will prevent you from installing the upper. But putting an empty magazine in and then installing the upper gives you just enough clearance to re-install the upper. Be careful when doing this to check, double check, and triple
Check the mag and chamber do not have a round in them wen doing this, and always have the barrel pointed in a safe direction.
